ELF LUBRICANTS in conjunction with ISLAND PARK, CROMWELL MOTOR SPEEDWAY, WOODFORD GLEN, EASTERN STATES and NELSON TOP OF THE SOUTH SPEEDWAY, are the sponsor for the ELF SUPER CUP for Super Saloons.
This is a 5 round series for the Super Saloons to be raced on the following dates;
Dunedin 4th Dec 09 Friday night
Cromwell 5th Dec 09 Saturday night
Christchurch 27th Feb 2010 Saturday night
Blenheim 26th March 10 Friday night
Nelson 27th March 10 Saturday night FINAL
The five rounds over three weekends saves the drivers and crew travelling to the same region twice plus a big saving in travell and accomodation costs.
During the off season a meeting was held that was well attended with 25 drivers plus crew and others. All agreed to re-instating the series and made the commitment to race at the five rounds.
We expect 17-18 drivers to enter the series subject to personal commitments.
In an attempt to make the series more exciting for driver and spectators alike, the race format will closely follow the successfull SSCAR series in the north island.
Race format;
One timed lap for each car to give grid position for the first of 2 heats.
Heat One 15 laps
Heat Two 15 laps. Grid position reverse of heat one.
Pole Shuffle Top 6 points cars from heats to 2 lap pole shuffle for final grid position.
Main race 25 laps
This year we are guaranteeing the tracks a minimum of 16 cars to appear at each track so important to see the same number of cars drive off the track as drove on.
Another change to keep all drivers involved is the opportunity for the drivers to nominate a replacement driver in his car for one round only to earn points, or change cars during the series if damaged.
With points on all 15 races, we should see a very close grouping of points that will give the mid-field cars an opportunity to finish on the podium as consistent solid finishing will gather points but also if a DNF from flat tyre say, still have the opportunity to win.
Each night the 1st 2nd 3rd finishing cars in the final will receive trophys.
A drum of fuel will go to the driver of the night chosen by a representative from ELF LUBRICANTS.
Overall we want to put on a show for the fans so expect some top racing from all the best Super Saloons in the south island at 5 different tracks.
ELF are to sponsor the inaugural ELF SUPER CUP trophy for the winner of the 5 round series at a function later in the year and if you wish to attend this function let me know. There will be a charge of course.
A web-site is already sorted so results will be readilly available.
This is a great opportunity to follow the top Supers over the season for a minimum of cost with the double header weekends.
