To answer your question Percy there were sprintcars. They stirred up plenty of dust. A good field of ministocks and also sidecars.

What an opening night.
From all weather reports there should have been no way in hell this meeting should have gone ahead.
Was on the road to PN at 8am, and once we got through to paraparaumu it was blue skys and sunshine with the odd cloud all the way.
Looked awfull when looking back towards wellington, and that weather seemed to stay there - and PN remained bathed in sunlight. At 330pm that cold wind came howling through, reminded me of the barber, and it was a few more jobs then off to town for a few bits and peices and too the track at 5pm.
Great turnout of 32 stockcars and 19 superstocks. There had been a bit of talk of what 24w and 99p were going to do to the new 11p tank, and when they came out for the first race of the night with Rees on 1 and Scooter on 2 it certainly made things very interesting from the go. ROlling start and pace car pulled off in front of grandstand, and Rees got the jump, but a push into turn 3 had scooter and a few others on the back bumper. Rees was pushed wide, and there was a right hand turn from scooter and the tank was put into the wall hard, but not at a great rate of knots - wet, and just started race obviousley, and then the pack came through and the tank was ping ponged.
Ron Tye was turned right on by 14p, and there was a bit of carnage - there was good contact all over with 32 cars.
2nd heat and first corner Alec Wilson had Brad Ridland rideing half way around turn 3, he came down, and Neil Cooley jammed him right back up, then forced him over - the first roll of the season before the first lap of the 2nd race of the year. Scooter had gone on the trailer (we saw him pull off in heat 1 after coming out of turn 4, and suddenly loosing all drive, and the engine pulling a big rev - something had gone) but the action continued. Ron Tye blocked from lap two, then suddenly had 10 cars scared to pass - the leaders came round at a million miles an hour, and loloyd, rees and davis punched through the nervous ones, and give Ron a tickle up. Next Corner Rees took massive full noise dive on Alec Wilson (roll over title winner last year - well, drawn with Rees, but won after doing the last one in the season i think) had jammed him high up the wall, kept it pinned, and left it steaming, broken on the track. From then on every corner the tank dive bombed cars, walling, and trying to roll.
Tank ened up with another flat RF, bent wellgaurd with sparks, and looked like it was only really running on 2 wheels, and moved to full on block mode with about 5 cars behind him. Georged Frear had been wound off the end earlier, as had 124s, and when another couple of cars joined in the push the two wheeled, sparking tank was pushed out wide, and upended spectaculrly. What a race, the crowd where we were on the front straight rose as one with a huge cheer as it happened. This was 50 meters from the chequred flag, the race had started with a roll, finished with a roll, and been full of huge contact all the way through.
2 races Shane melsop and Rees got into the wall together, with Melsop ending up crossed in front of rees, and the ineviable happened with a rim digging in, and over she went.
was an awesome opening meeting, and the tank came back to win the last - it is faaaaassst, but seemed to not quite be on the money with the handling (if winning the last is any gauge i'm all wrong again haha)
good work, just wish Bruce would get rid of the big boom at the start of the meeting, I swear i lost my punnet of chips to the air, and lost 10 years off my life.
great start to the season, and there were some sharp vehicles there.
cheers, and apologies for the waffle
