Message received just now from Willie Any reason given? Perhaps not been signed off by SNZ. I believe the resource consent allows him to have a practice tomorrow, Sunday, when the weather forecast is a little more positive! Not that it's looking like thunder at the moment! Certainly will be a lot of very affected and frustrated racers. Weather over Baypark at 10am

By far the most professional looking, unprofessionally run track. Such a shame.

I believe there may be a little bit more to the story then just weather.
It was mentioned to me today that TCVL had made a few strict requirements to running practice to do with the infield etc. The Promter may have been forced to cancel this practice due to the possiblity of legal action if obligations weren't met.
Do you know any councillors Murray that could clarify anything I've possibly mentioned?

That is absolute claptrap in regard any finger pointing at the City Council or it's management company, TCVL (Tauranga City Venues Limited). I have no doubt, as usual and as applies at Palmerston North, the promotor was reminded of his obligation to avoid unnecessary infield (rugby) damage. No more, no less. TCVL have no part to play in how Baypark is promoted (or not) or managed, any more than avis can control how you drive their rental! Pay your money, prove you are a legal driver, and the rest is up to you! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this time last year a similar outcome was had for competitors, again, absolutely nothing to do with TCVL. To have allowed for only one practice prior to an opening night, with no advertised (pre-arranged rain date), I think most reasonable folk would realize is nothing to do with a City Council. As predicted, the weather has certainly not helped, with, at best, only a couple of hours suitable for practice, had the promotor been organised for today. Baypark and surface moisture = racecar meets wall!

Willies good foresight came through again, it hosed down with lots of thunder and lightning at 2pm. Rained hard for three hours. So once again the Bay Park bashes jumped the gun.

A few actually believe this Council's fault 'divert attention stuff', likely along with the tooth fairy! If Baypark turns to total custard it's my ratepayers left holding the baby, not the members or SNZ.

The folk that put me on Council are the same folk that own bought the place off Bob C. on the basis it was professionally run and would not be a drain on community's wallets. I think it's an awesome speedway (Baypark). As being a spokesperson on behalf of grant segar, rex pollock, stewart crosby and craig ross - folk that know me, know I'm nobody's pimp. By the way, Craig Ross is long gone. Yes, it was a speedway before rugby, a successful one at that! PS: It is Baypark competitors that give a darn that invited my comment, that sent the photo. There are still a few left. As for Willie Kay being intimidated, that is a Tui Addvert!

Those of you that are pro Wille and Baypark should perhaps pull your head out of the sand and see how well other tracks are run, and you might also realise that most of us that rubbish the track have raced at or have had a lot to do with Baypark in the past, and have seen the light and moved on, including those who comment from Christchurch.

Bay Park is an excellent venue and can be run extremely well. Its just on occasion and sometimes more often than is liked it is not run so good. As has been posted in numerous previous threads there is very lttle communication, very little le-way and very little "outside" competition,it will be interesting to see how many outside cometitiors willy kay will allow in for practise at Bay Park for the nz saloon champs. However back on topic due to the outcome of the weekend a rainout was clearly the right idea, as promoter now he needs to do what is best and fair for the people who bring the crowds to pay the bills and give them practise before opening night so they can fix and off season niggles they may discover. No fun starting a season chasing points when you realise weekend before opening night you have a major problem
