.........or are we seeing even more wingeing and moaning on the Discussion Board, before the season really even kicks into life, than ever before?
What gets me is that spectators at some of the venues/promotions getting bagged, those housing some of our best facilities, best drivers, best action and best car numbers, just don't seem to realize how lucky they are. Palmerston North, Western Springs, Baypark have all copped some flack this summer - or what we've seen of it to date.
Some are perennial favourites to cop a shellacking of course, and it's good to see Waikaraka Park in the "good books" to date, but sometimes I wonder whether we (and I include myself in that) expect just a little bit too much at times. We have a darn good sport, easily accessible with tracks all over the country, and well priced when compared with other forms of entertainment. What more do we want?
And considering that early season meetings rarely meet the expectations of true fans, often due to low car counts and a perceived lack of action, isn't it a little early to be rolling out the "I'm never going back there" line before the fireworks have even settled?

well priced when compared with other forms of entertainment. most tracks are reporting good spectator numbers at this stage, i am wondering if the current economic situation has driven extra spectators to tracks, seeking better value for $

It's pretty much the same every year Barry , often the reality doesn't match up to the expectation/anitipation . Sometimes of course some tracks deserve what they get .
Of those tracks you mention , with the exception of one perhaps, I think there are many more positive posts than negative on the board.
It's also very easy to pick up on negatives if you are involved with a track and sometimes natural reaction totally overrules .
I turned down a ride to Western Springs on Saturday , I'm kind of glad I did now because I would have gone with high expectations with regards the Midget racing and would have been gutted to be served small fields of them so yep I would have been moaning too.
On the other hand I've seen enough positives about Baypark that I am going there next Saturday and earlier today I was scouring through my calendar trying to find a date i could utilise to sneak down to Palmy . All the positive posts about the action have me yearning for a look .
Personally I think it's all about perception , frame of mind , associations etc.
....and sometimes those with a bee in their bonnet about something just set out to cause upsets .

You're right Barry. Noticed it too. Maybe it's just the ole green-eyed monster. Or peeps with an agenda. From all i've heard, things have got off to a great start all over the country, so just ignore the knockers. We are so lucky , we dont even know it half the time. ps Mr Macgor....you missed a very good night at the Springs, despite what some have written.

Lets see what happens at these tracks in the next few weeks before getting to carried away.

Bit off topic this but in response to Jamo's post . I've been wondering if speedway is to the entertainment industry something similar to the fast food joints and the restaurant industry.
They reckon McDonald's & Co are doing well in the recession because people who used to dine at the ritzy places are now slumming it .
Perhaps those that used to lash out on Saturday nights are finding it cheaper to eat hot-dogs and breathe dust for their night out.

not too excited, one meeting does not constitute a season, just wondering out loud.
there can be little doubt that the standard ( across the country ) of car/package presentation continues to improve, just have a look at the photos and videos posted in the last week. a little early to sit in judgement on tracks and promotions, but again the pictures say a lot of words about the work and effort in trying to present and action these venues.

Agree Barry - I am amazed at the negativity towards venues such as Palmerston North and Bay Park. I remember not so long ago that Rotorua took a battering from a certain poster on Macgors. I certainly didn't let up in challenging the behaviour on this forum but that posters reaction showed that it was incestuous and not a constructive speedway related issue. Those that use this forum to air their personal baggage are the dangerous ones and should be shut down straight away. I'm glad that there is a lot more accountability from moderators to posts that appear to be personal. On the other hand I also think people should try and recognise the boundary between light hearted bantering from people like Mad Marty ;D and other damaging postings.

Maybe a bit one-eyed but what Rotorua did last Friday night was great. Sure the car numbers were down, but the entertainment factor was right up there ie Kyle in the ministock, and Kyle, Stan and Westbury the way they started the fireworks. Prob on a low note was the soundsystem (speakers) but Im sure when you hit the mic Barry we should here you loud and clear!! ;D

It's certainly great to read all of the reports about the fantastic early crowd numbers around the country - let's hope that continues all summer long.

Yes Mike , it was a well rounded night of entertainment and accept the racing wasn't actually anything special But as they say it was the first night .
As for the sound system it was obviously worse some areas . I gather there is a plan though and that reaction to a problem is what makes Rotorua great to have as a local.

Glad to hear the night went well.... I'm sure if there is a problem, Sonja and Paul will soon have it sussed.

I don't think there has been an excess of negativity.
Sure the odd meeting here or there has copped a bit of criticism but even then there have been some positive comments amongst the negative. What criticism there has been has been explained.
As for Springs, Baypark and Palmy don't forget that these tracks charge $20 which is the highest in the country. I think what we've seen is that fans have higher expectations for these $20 meetings. Running Adult and Youth Ministocks or Quarter Midgets and F2 Midgets is not going to get a positive response at the prices being charged.
Overall though I think the comments on here have been positive. If you look at it track by track there has been plenty of positive about Waikaraka, Huntly, Rotorua, Napier etc and plenty of positivity surrounding the various fireworks displays around the country.

Hey Macgor why don't you come down to Palmerston North on November 21st for the first round of the National Midget Series. I will save a couple of prime seats for you. We are working on a scheme to make Pickens go to the back of the field again, half way through the Feature. ;D Last year he won the race after being put to the back part way though the race. Did he drive the wheels of that Midget! An awesome drive that will have everyone back to watch him again. Not sure, at this stage, if we will run the Manawatu Superstocks Championship that night as well but a strong possibility.

if you could weld some decent bumpers on them I'd be keen...........just kidding . I actually think the racing will be awesome . Very tempting but Stockcar teams versus Midgets is there really a choice?.....and then there are those darn team numbers to consider...decisions...decisions....decisions ....Superstock champs you say..............Think I'd better have a sleep on it .
