Gee last time i looked at the track you could at least fit 2 cars wide if not 3 cars Ritchie drives within his limits and he knows how to control a race from the front. As per Shannon comment its called racecraft If any car drove up the back of him it would not be ritchie fault. Ritchie held the inside line the whole race and a couple of other cars went round the outside of him. If you thought that he was slowing the other cars down then why did they not go round the outside?? If they carn't get round the outside then they have to follow.... Simple. What a joke

Visacard has hit the nail on the head, if someones runs up ritchies backside its not his fault, cos last time I checked too, (or saw) there is plenty of room for a car to run round the outside of a car on the poleline!!

You intitled to your opinion SMITY but im sure if someone ran clean up Ritchies date the refs wouldnt see it as his fault. End of the day the guy is a genious behind the wheel. If SNZ race referees ever go professional with appropriate support, apply consistency to interpretation and application of the 'saloon race rules', it will not be a day too soon. There, however, be a cost involved! In saying that, possibly of all the many tracks I visit, Woodford Glen SNZ Officials are the most professional in their duties, from the scrutineers, stewards, refs. I note Ben's comment above which is in stark contrast to reality, the rules and how The Glen referees apply them from time to time. - This time last year my elation at winning a feature race at the Glen soon became frustration.
Bit like getting a cheque only to have it bounce! I secured the win with Steve Williams breathing down my neck, only to be relegated to second place as the refs believe I baulked existing turn four on my last lap, disadvantaging Steve Williams!
- I believe the same meeting had Emerson in his super saloon leading a race, loosing it a bit existing turn 4 mid race, the following cars brake, take evasive action avoiding all contact. Car at the very rear (likely away with the fairies) spins up and stops. Emmo was put to the rear for the restart deemed having been the cause of the stoppage (40m away).
Just a couple of examples above of many.
The lead car is subject to the racing rules, just as the rest are. If it should be clearly evident that ANY competitor is deliberately adopting a driving style that unduly disadvantages another, then it is likely to be contrary to the rules, with the ref having the option to relegate, penalise, etc. However, what a great weekend of speedway with worthy winners and place-getters. Sorry about Emmo having to retire due to a faulty main power switch, having clearly demonstrated he was a real threat to the lead.
Friday Night ... Saturday Night ... Now, when will I be able to get back down to the Glen, will they let me in the gate?............[/b]

Track started off very greasy,so they put an extra mini stock race on first, didn't know mini stocks could take so much track away (to put it in the pits). Rumor has it Dennis Bolt liked what he saw, a track that was going to last a bit longer. I was thinking track was going to be slick as early on on the second night, but what nor-west blew wasn't too strong and defiantly cooler/cold. Sure it went slick in the last mod race,so the final champion of champions super saloon race was, for the bulk of it going to be slick, nothing new there. I want to talk of something that makes me alittle happier,(been a while).A checkered flag I got in super saloons (the only one I have got) at the Glen. It was last seasons Champ of Champs. In front for over half of a heat race, with the now 1NZ back alittle. Had a caution and people watching new I was going to be passed on the restart. It didn't happen and I put space between me and Shane Mac. How I drove was gunning it down the straights, without really buzzing the tire, and braking real hard while car still straight, turning in gentle leaving LF on the smooth concrete before ripple strip help 'dig' RR in track,as it was higher than the track,no slide, just drive round. Woodford Glen like or love it seems to have a track that just goes slick. Its like a big bore motor crosser with a new knobbly on sun baked clay(concrete) trying to get his best acceleration times, not an enthralling specter. One must do what one can to race with success (with what he has) on a slippery surface. On the front page,Where does Mr macgor get off saying (in differing words) watching so many heats being a bit of a bore. You what. Wow it was abit like the super s champs, totally cool. Seeing the speed and precision passing different setups who's more ballsy, it goes on. My brother and I could survive on a staple diet of saloon racing. Don't think Ritchie's driving was controversial, he was doing what he could to get his car round the pole line, def not slowing enough to be balking. And if he slows too much the outside is getting more attractive. Gee the restart was a mess for a couple, apparently the lights flashed or went green and back or similar earlier than usual,ie turn four just after Trev (lead car) went past nearest light box,Burs and Ritchie saw it and responded, but had to pull their horns in pretty quick,Unfortunately burs hooked with Trev RF to LR,and in the process got a little tap from Ritchie,(so I believe)along the way.A very unfortunate incident. Mostly nice photos Murray, you have raised the bar as far as presentation goes, gee how do you do that. Hey where is the one of you sitting, surrounded by old nth island super panels?eh?. Well I think the saloons are about to kick off in Cromwell.
