Converting from FWd to RWD cant be done under the SNZ Saloon rules. Not sure what rules they can run under in the SI.
Need more Jappas in both saloon classes to make somemore variety !!

Converting from FWd to RWD cant be done under the SNZ Saloon rules. Not sure what rules they can run under in the SI. Need more Jappas in both saloon classes to make somemore variety !! You know that's exactly what I thought, so I asked the driver in the pits and he said it was all OK (and it must be greensheeted)... So I had a look in the rules, as I know it used to say that - but for Saloons it just says engine must be the same manufacturer and number of cylinders, not even configuration. (Which Scott 11W has mentioned as well, as otherwise you shouldn't be seeing straight 6 Ford's in Mustangs - as they haven't been built since 1979... but 2 of those running in the DHL as well)! Then the only other thing it says is that an east west engine must be within 25mm or something of the original position (but doesn't say it HAS to be east west). Then it goes on about transmissions can be from different vehicle as long as mounted to the engine, and rear suspension/diffs are free... So, reading it - there is NOTHING THERE ANYMORE THAT SAYS FWD CAN'T BE CHANGED TO RWD!!! So maybe that rule got lost in the split of the Super/Saloon rules?? I think its a good thing though - FWD sucks on dirt, so having a whole bunch of potential new RWD 4 cylinders gives the whole class an extra level of possibilities. Anyone read it differently???

Chris, I see your point. Just been in my SNZ book. Engine from same Manufacturer as car and same number of cylinders fitted to that make and model. Says nothing about configeration !
So I can build a RWD Honda Integra provided it has a 4 cylinder Honda motor. HRC should be able to clarify, hes on the saloon tech committee.
Anyone else read this differently ?

Yep, that's the way I read it now - not sure if its an oversight in the splitting of the rules, but i think its actually quite a good thing.
And someone obviously green sheeted 999D and allowed it to run as a Saloon, not a Super or an A Grade, so seems to me its all go for those sort of cars.
So Preludes, Civics, CRX's, Celica's, Lancers, Mondeo's, 626's, Mazda 3, MX6, Pulsar, Bluebird, etc, etc - all with rear wheel drive conversions - lots of potential new RWD Jappas!
Just think, you could even run a straight six (if you can find one) in a car that originally had a transverse V6 - like an MX6, GTO, Lancer, Galant (does a Hemi 265 count as a Mitsi motor - as Mitsubishi bought out Chrysler Australia)??!
Or if you want to go Euro - Mini with a BMW 4 cylinder, RWD Peugeot, VW Golf, Audi A4 - etc, etc
Mazda's are Ford's - so Falcon 6 in an MX6 or 626 body???
Am I wrong Martin??
