I suppose the answer to the question is, that teams racing takes a toll on man and machinery, but what point is there traveling up or down country to race once against another club. I cant see why teams don't go for a best of three over a night. a one off seems pointless to me, how do you know who the best team really is after one race? and why would you invite a club over and not make the most of it, there must be a reason why teams racing is done the way it is.

Back in the era of stock car racing that I enjoyed most during the 70s a one off teams race always drew a good crowd. It was the only way in those days that teams racing was held. The bonus to this was that the visiting team also participated in races later during the night. End result was a "get even approach" from the losing team members amongst the normal racing. It made for some great stock car action in those days.

I cant see why teams don't go for a best of three over a night. Because how is a promoter going to tell his crowd that the best of three is all over after the first race cause of damage etc. I know the same thing could happen at a teams champs but the crowd wont be as dissoponted if they see 11 teams races on a night instead of 12

I think that they are awesome and in a way, the premise is better than teams champs, and in the past they used to be.
Its a one off.. no stepping back and trying to save the cars. In the recent Nelson Vs Christchurch race at WG, there was a light walling and 2 wind offs in the first lap.. the guys didnt care if they lasted or not. And then after that was done, the Nelson survivors joined the normal races and produced some of the best racing this season. I think only 3 Nelson team cars made it out, and 4 ChCh cars too with Malc having issues and pulling off in H1, and Rosewarne not making it out til H2, so a 3 teams race night wouldnt have gone far in that case.
It also gives clubs the chance to get new blood in a team without taking a sub-par team to the nats. If we had mean sponsors though, it would be wicked to see a teams league for a season and make those one offs mean a bit more. Down here in the South, they have annual cups that they race for, and that is a wicked idea i think. I think there may be a Kihikihi Vs Stratford one too.

The Wanganui Vulcans [note the spelling Regan!!!] and the Stratford Stormers have a trophy they teams race for annually. Some years it has been home and away. I think both teams and supporters value these events and look forward to them.

have to agree with the one off race theory as wasnt that originally the format at palmy on qualifying night and then lowest scoring winner dipped out on semis which as a spectator i enjoyed has taken me a few years to accept the group system now at palmy but am enjoying it now and a challenge match should always be a one off race

Haha i was in a hurry at work, got it rite now tho. ;D I think the one off teams race makes it something to look forward to for the crowd and is cheap for the club.I know in hb we dont have many teams races and when we do we get good crowds. Also its good for the other 3 races as well more action.

Agree with with Ronald Reeeeegan 52b(sorry bout spelling mad one ). The tracks that have a one off race seem to have a recipricle ( sorry bout spelling mad one ) agreement. The good part about that is the one off teams race boils over to the other three heats as the teams race is usually early in the night.
Bring it on.
