Just reading thread bout Mike Hall got me thinking ... and a number of question came to mind ... macgor.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=13669If your race car got stolen and then turned up at another track a year later .. How can you prove its yours? Possession 9/10ths? Has your engine No already been removed? What can we do to protect our vehicles? Whats your thoughts?

Would be a hard thing to use though wouldn't it ?? just paint over them if they are on the chassis, but engine wise probably could with no problems Maybe put a special mark on it somewhere like initials or number stamped where you wouldn't normally look.

Hello all,
Its pleasing to see a pro-active thread in respect to thefts. I am a Detective stationed in Palmerston North and currently have the car theft portfolio. This portfolio covers everything from trucks to tractors to competition vehicles. I am currently working on a project with other agencies in an attempt to being able to identify stolen race vehicles and bikes. We have started to brain storm a few ideas, however I know there are some fantastic initiatives out there that we could implement. Please feel free to PM or email me any ideas or thoughts you may have (and even criticisms providing they are constructive). The project is a for national coverage not just Palmerston North.
Thanks in advance.
Regards
Jacob Baker Detective Palmerston North Police Jacob.Baker@police.govt.nz

write all your details down then put it in the chassis, the weld your bumpers on.could work
Weld your name somewhere hard to see on the car.

what about a magnet strip/s put in the chassis yeah something like that. would deter someone if they knew they had to cut it up and check inside etc. too much hassle. just an idea but one that seems it would work

another thought is having your car michrochiped, easy to hide and hard to find because of size. not sure of cost but there are also small michrochip devices that can be tracked by satelite, would depend what your car is worth to you but another possibility.

Most speedway cars would be fairly individual though... (I know I could identify mine easily by lots of hacked off bits and bird nuts welding)!!
So how many actual documented cases are there of race cars being stolen - and were they never seen again, or has someone "found" one under a different look later??
