How do they measure engine set back??? Is it measured on the tip of the spark plug? If so, then with The Ford Spark plug leading forward they have a huge advantage over the chevy in being able to set their motor back further. As for supers, they have angle plugs leading backwards, which disadvantages them if this measurement is taken from the tip. So, Is the rule to measure the centre line on the spark plug boss??? Surely this would be fairest to all!! This rule needs to be clarified, as no one within The SNZ technical committee has an answer. Can anyone else clarify or have comments

idealy all our motors should be set back 6inches from water pump in line with front axle centre.same as aussie rules .instead of our model A rules that put all the weight over the front .ie just watch aus32 360ci running against our 500/800hp cars & he has leaf springs as well & he aint slow

alot of NZ rules have no common sense behind them but this SNZthe 2 dont seem to go together that much
but should a ford be aloud to have the engine setback because someone has mesured from the tip of the sparkplug where it should be from the centre of the plug hole

very good question, IMHO, it should read 'number 1 cylinder bore' instead of 'leading spark plug'

The rule used to say no1 Spark plug hole (not Spark plug) In the early days I remember Jumbo Berryman testing the Scrutineers with the ruling and at the next conference the rule was clarified.
Whats happen to it now who knows.....

The flow on from that is higher rear percentage means you can use more HP! So those with the Higher HP will get the biggest advantage. I don't personally believe that would benefit the grade in the long or short term. There are plenty of inexpensive ways to do this without obsoleting all our current cars.

I have always thought that the fords have an unfair advantage if you use the tip of the plug, how about finding some longer plugs, does that mean your engine goes further back? ;D
