The Saloon Bay of Plenty Champs was held in the context of the 240's today. A slick track and sweltering heat (in a race suit) greeted the competitors, anticipating a 'drivey track' continuing on from night one of the 240's. Today's lineup had Phil Towgood added, unable to attend on the (rained out) Saturday night due to Waikaraka home track committments. I chose a rear grid for all three heats due to front brake issues ( had none! ) which while frustrating at times, likely saved me from major damage in heat one. Unfortunately a number of the competitors chose to disregard the slick conditions and attempted to circulate as if on train tracks - they failed! The referee had a little chat to drivers at the conclusion of heat one! It's about to 'hit the fan', HEAT ONE, LAP ONE! Three wide ... Saloons heat one, first start attempt. Even off the very rear it's dangerous ...So we get underway again, for a lap or two. The stoppages are quite handy if you're in to texting while behind the wheel! ...They must have listened, or the track got a bit of drive back in it, for heat two. I failed to start heat two as my rear braking went to the same place unknown as my front. A brake bleed on the rear had a little pedal and brake found, enough to start off the rear again in heat three. BOP Champ: 2NZ (5m) Brent McClymont, 2nd to Paul Managh (82m) and third place to Steve Williams 1NZ (21h).A few stills with a bit of video to follow:

Heat three has 13r off the rear ...
Heat three final result has Brent McClymont 2NZ (5m) and Paul Managh 82m equal on points, with Steve Williams close behind. A runoff is required ...
The Stockcars reminded us as to why they are called 'stockcars' ...

Love the little TR8. Whose car is this, any details on it. Given this model stopped prodn circa 1980 obviously dispensation no problems re the 20 year rule ? Guess same with Nigel Ross' Monza.

SNZ gave a blanket dispensation earlier in the year for cars over 20 years old - but who knows what will happen next year?? TR8's were last built in 1982 - and no similar vehicle afterwards, so I've been saying for years how do they still run - now 28 years out of production... (And Monza is even longer ago)!

who is that black car .has illegal back spoiler .that should get ya.s going Ok I'll bite From the photo above it looks like it meets the rules to me: A rear spoiler may be added. (i) Spoiler, and spoiler end plates, to be a maximum 150mm high, and maximum 500mm long, front to rear. (ii) The spoiler to be no wider than the maximum width of the bodywork to which it is attached. (iii) Spoilers on hatchbacks must originate from below the base of the rear window. (iv) Spoiler, and end plates, must finish within rear of car, and to be measured as per drawings. (v) Maximum height of spoiler, or rear of car to be 1200mm from the ground. (vi) An OEM spoiler, manufactured of fibreglass, aluminium or plastic, maximum height 200mm, which normally has two mountings is allowed, these have air going under or over the spoiler. The spoiler is to come within the existing rules on height, length and width.

(i) Spoiler, and spoiler end plates, to be a maximum 200mm high, and maximum 500mm long, front to rear. (ii) The spoiler to be no wider than the maximum width of the bodywork to which it is attached. Must comply with T11-2-20-(r) (i), (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) (vii) No performance and/or racing type rear spoilers are permitted.

Get a load of this from Nigel's post ... "vii) No performance and/or racing type rear spoilers are permitted." How on earth is that to be enforced? Isn't that one of the craziest rules, likely second only to removing mirrors from the saloons as they are used to block! The last race video clearly demonstrates mirrors not required for blocking, shepherding, etc!

Yes, clear as mud or is that clear as clay!
So you can have an OEM spoiler but not if it enhances performance.
You have to wonder if people think about how these rules will be policed when they put them into place.

yes now the classes are split the rules now vary quite a lot and one for all the Saloon class to look out for when buying a ex super saloon to convert into a Saloon is the roll cage material sizes. as super saloons are now allowed Southward Roll cage tube which is 38 od x 2.6 mm wall and Saloons are only allowed 38 od x 3.0 mm wall seamless tube (this one is going to cost a lot of people alot of headaches ) ps all HRC chassis are built with minimum 3.0 mm wall tube in the shaded roll cage area cheers Martin Halcrow

Hopefully someone like yourself will prepare the appropriate remit for next year to keep the rollcages the same, as the obvious intent is to enable "hand me down" super saloon chassis. As for the Rear Spoiler rule. The intent was simply to allow all /any OEM Production Car Rear Spoilers to be used on any Saloon car, e.g. Mazda 6 Spoiler on Holden Monaro... (Who knows if they go together, but was just an example) The last rule was to NOT ALLOW the big Performance and/or Racing Wings that appear on circuit racing NZV8's, V8 Supercars, etc... As for policing it, yeah, I can see your points, but it should be blatantly obvious what is NOT on a normal road going production car. Or maybe not? And agree with Murray, getting rid of mirrors was the stupidist thing I have ever seen.
