Sorry for the late posting,
After 6 weeks out of the car we were back as support for the Waikato Stockcar Champs, we had a few troubles this season but the last run at the NI Champs Qualifying, although when a upside is not qualifing, and snotting the wall you know its been a tough year,
There was a good field of saloons there, and it was good to see Nigel finally get out on the track in the very nice looking 9h Monaro, although he was not to impressed with the betting going on to who was going to scratch it first,
Race 1 off grid 3 and we were caught out by a very dry and slippery track, with not to much drive we were not on the pace, and with a late race spin a tail end finish was the result, but on a high side the bog we have had all year had gone, due to not being able to adjust the diff ratio we had gone to smaller rear tyres with great results,
With a bit of advice from Chris Street we adjusted the roll centre in the car and had much more drive in the 2nd race, with the track still not providing a lot of drive but the car being much better, we managed 3rd in this race after a collison eliminated 3 cars,
The last race and we were off 4, but with a car missing in front I managed to hit the front in the first lap, with the track being slick I decided to stick to the bottom, thinking that anyone that wanted could try the outside at there peril. Well Aaron Tonks decided he was the man for the job and after 3 or so attempt’s found the drive on the outside he needed, Greg Powell followed soon after around the outside, so another 3rd place finished,
Although it was not a great night results wise we have always struggled on slick dry tracks, but we got better as the night went on, which give us some hope for the future,
Next meeting, Waikato Saloon Champs, 27th feb
