seeing as the 50 years for sprintcars is coming up in Knoxville they are having a 50 lap final race. is that to many laps for ones fuel tank to hold? not as if pit stops are easy and wanted. your expert thoughts on this?

Not hard to fit a larger fuel cell if required.

Not hard to fit a larger fuel cell if required. Wouldn't there be some sort of rule on the size of the fuel cell allowed? im not sure on this, correct me if im wrong.

I watched the A main at Red River Valley Speedway in early 2000s (WoO) and it was a 50 lapper on a half mile banked track. Rules were you could adjust the car at 25 laps (conpulsary stop) , fuel it etc but if you changed a tyre, wing (replaced anything) you went to the back. Donny Shatz won on old rubber. Kinser went to the back and ran 3rd or something....not much advantage to changing tyres except that they are fresh. Best setup, smoothest driver still won on the day. ;D ;D

This from Knoxville Raceway site. 50 Laps for the 50th Goodyear Knoxville Nationals presented by Lucas Oil.
The votes are in and the poll has been tallied. Fifty laps is the clear winner with 62% of the total votes for the 50th Goodyear Knoxville Nationals presented by Lucas Oil. Thirty laps received 34% while forty came in a distant third with just 4% of the votes.
“The 50th Knoxville Nationals is a milestone and we wanted to make sure we got it right.” Stated Race Director Ralph Capitani. “Our fan satisfaction is one of our highest priorities, and we feel it is critical to include their collective desires in our decision making.”
The 50th Knoxville Nationals is a four day cultural festival that ends each night with some of the most exciting motorsports racing in the world. Parades, exposition, fan fairs, live music, camping and fun is just some of the action you will see. Over 100 drivers from around the world will compete for a $1,000,000 purse and the prestigious title of Knoxville National Champion.

They ran 40 laps at 2009 Knoxville Nationals and had a fuel stop which was on lap 22 or there abouts. Same with the Kings Royal at Eldora and the Ironman 55 at Pevely. They all held fuelstops. And again this year, if it is 50 laps, there will be another fuel stop, not too liked by the spectators though.

Might be a silly question but do they re-fuel back in the pits or on the in-field?
I'm picturing drivers trying to find their crew on the infield and people flying everywhere - Could be highly entertaining.
Also how do they re-order the field after the stop? I suppose it would just be Indian file but it's a bit rough if you had built up a lead on the rest of the field.

They just stop on track on the line and the restart is just like having a caution. The field is restarted, bunched back up and away they go again. I think there is a time limit to fill up as well. You must be off the track before this time runs out. At the I-55 race during the fuel stop, Donny Schatz crew member was on a little to long and he was pushed back 2 positions for the restart.

williams grove speedway in the states used to have a 75lap national open event, ran 50laps then had fuel stop and then a 25lap sprint at the end, watched it once on video and it was a very good race, the winner was a bit of a surprise, and the interview at the end was real funny.so 50laps is not to many for a sprintcar

Anderson Speedway in Indiana hold a Sprint car race called the little 500. 500 laps on a 1/3 mile concrete oval, complete with pitstops (absolutely intriguing to watch). More of a USAC kinda arrangement, but still incredible....

50 laps is good distance i think considering whats up for grabs. for snuz the crews at knoxville are alreadyon the infield as that is where the pits is at knoxville. only thing is i dont want donny schatz to win. lol... go steve kinser or danny lasoski or my mate darren clayton

we have had 40 lap 1/4 mile races in NZ
but then a lap of Knoxville used a heap more gas than a lap of Western Springs (almost 3x)
