This weekend sees the running of the King of the Park at Waikaraka. This is the last meeting of the season. There are in excess of 116 cars listed to race. Unfortunately for the Modifieds they only make up 7 of that number. Nevertheless it will still be fast racing and the drivers are as follows: 6a Brian Jesen 7a Ron Drake 25a Paul Stewart 29a Mark Wade 56a Paul Blakeley 64a Grant Harris 84a Kevin Shannon Classes racing are Super Saloons, Saloons, Super Stocks, Stock Cars, Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks. Visit the web site www.waikarakafamilyspeedway.co.nz for the driver lists. Craig

Any information on the 84a entry?
Haven't heard/seen the name before, seems a bit strange to come out for the last meeting of the season!
Info on driver and car would be appreciated.

The little info I have is Kevin has been running at Waiuku and is looking to join an SNZ track next season.
Wadey invited Kevin to have a run off the back at Waikaraka, this weekend. The car is being greensheeted and should be all ready for Saturday.

Someone must have got a bit excited! I must say though that there seem to be a few guys on Macgors that are quick to pull things up like this but is it really that big a deal?? Hardly something to haul them across the coals for No wonder promoters etc don't like to confirm numbers/ drivers etc before the event because if things don't happen exactly the way they have said they get roasted for mis-information! Percy is another one who has great pleasure in needle picking everything to death... does it really achieve anything??? Just be thankful you get to see another meeting before the long winter kicks in and enjoy watching who does turn up!

Dont worry Jamo will not be heading to Waikaraka park this weekend so you will not have worry about me being positive or negative about the meeting.
Remember people see things all different ways.
So I look forward to Meeanee this Saturday and a perfect night of Speedway followed by Kihikihi Sunday

Looking at the picture I can tell its the ex Geoff Stanley car of a few years back is an old converted gambler chassis with reverse bars in it i owned it for a few years but never raced it . was then sold to Dean Martin who lent it to the current owner(think Dean may still actually own it)

I didn't notice any coal hauling going on, just a question being asked. I guess as many other promotions/clubs are able to manage the publishing of pretty accurate lists, fans feel able to ask why those that don't aren't able to as well? Have just checked last weeks ASSCC programme, and although it can be read a couple of different ways I think it is supposed to mean that there are Super Saloons, Saloons, Stockcars, Superstocks, Streetstocks and V8 Modifieds "from around the country", not specifically the latter class.

Just re the 84a comment,
Kevin has had huge help over the last 2 seasons in this car which I believe Dean does own the chassis. Many, many parts have been lent, given or sold very cheaply to Kevin by Dean, Ron Salter and many others. His helper/mentor is Greg Main who posts on here as Jeds and he has aspired to turn to speedway from experience gained at Waiuku, Waiheke and the Patetonga practice circuit.
A rookie, but with some experience. I was under the impression he was going to register at Huntly for some races this season as the very tight budget allowed, but Wadey as his ever popular and likeable self has obviously nudged him to the park. He lives in Auckland, and I'm sure any pass he may or may not pull off will be a mental yeehaa.
I know Wadey has had a hand in the engine too, hope to be there to see the ginga in his first speedway effort.

hey hoony, long time no hear, yeah kev was having his first run at speedway tonite,i couldn't make it as i have anzac deal on starting at 4am,i finished putting kevs car together a couple of months ago,we had a problem with some heads that were sold to kev as a really good set, they turned out to be screwed,so set us back a bit.i put the motor together and it sounded quite strong considering whats in it,kev told me he's going to run it till the end of the year then buy some new heads,he's doing really well and growing in confidence as a driver each time out,i have stepped back a bit as i have my own car to build, plus i'm not really interested in the speedway grind week in week out, been there done that 20yrs ago, just going to finish restoring my old sprinter and probably just run it with the vintage club when i feel like it. if you went along let us know how he went, cheers, jed

yes , i have lent kev the roller , was just sitting around , good to see him out and having a skid
think he has learnt the hard way a few times on this project that there are a lot of guys out there all to happy to burn someone new to the sport with bad deals , lucky he has found a few honest people to make up for the bad deals
maybe kev could take over my old nick name as "THE ORANGE ROUGHIE " ( people in the know will have a laugh at that ) , still have the profesionally hand painted engine cover in that brillant bright orange , paint has almost dried
hopefully get an H on his wing next year

Hey Deano hope your not sugesting i gave him a bad deal sold him some nice heads which came originally from Halcrow I was just middle man but turns out one does have bad crack so i said i would get another and do all machining for free to make it back to a pair of heads or i would refund his money in full which is unusual in speedway circles ,strange thing is they came off an engine which was going fine ,sore with my own eyes .So thats the story on the heads I have also done heaps of other stuff to help him get to the track even offered to dial cams in etc which he didnt take up . So my consience all clear. Wadey

hey wadey , was not meaning you , must have a guilty concience ....ha ha ;D ... catch up with you this weekend for some of your special coffee's he basically got off on the wrong foot at the begining , right from when he bought a bare old chassis for $800 from a so cald racer friend , should of been a few boxes of red at most , then people started selling kev there junk for top dollar , he knew no better its good that your looking after him ......will you still look after kev when he starts getting passed you checked out the car tonight , looking real good have been offered to go for a skid at sponsers day , brave move for kevin considering how many times i have rolled there and hit the wall , might have to bring my light jandels along for the day
