Quality Field Set To Battle It Out For Lucas Oils Victorian Speedcar Championship
This year’s edition of the Lucas Oils Victorian Speedcar Championship is set to be a cracker with the nomination list growing by the day, with 24 of Australia’s best set to hit it out. With the largest Victorian title field for some years, the real excitement is in the quality of the 2010 field.
Speedcar drivers from 5 states are making their way to Wangaratta City Raceway on the 22nd of May, making this year’s running one the most competitive and star studded fields in recent memory.
Topping the list is defending Victorian Champion, Mark Brown, who has come off another stellar season by capturing his 4th Speedcar Super Series. Brown Dog will be looking to finish his season off by aiming for his 5th Victorian title, edging closer to 6 time winner of the event, the legendary Ray 'Noddy' Bishop. Brown may find it the most difficult title yet to try and retain, as Current Aus 1 and arch rival, Nathan Smee will be looking to add a Victorian Championship to his growing list of achievements.
Making the long haul from Queensland are the trio Brendan Palmer, Mick Harders and Anthony Chaffey, headed by the Aus 2 of Palmer who will be looking to go one further than his runner up spot in last year’s race.
NSW will be heavily represented with a host of stars capable of taking the title back home. Ant Brien, Scott Hill, Ian Black, Rod Francis, Andy Hassan, and Mathew Jackson.
WA legend Neville Lance could be the man to spoil the big guns party, and take the trophy for it longest ever ride home. No Man has ever taken Victoria’s Championship trophy back to WA in its 65 year history but the man Affectionately know as Big Rev Nev has the equipment, talent and experience to re write the history books.
SA are also well counted for, with SSS guns Johnny “Quick Time” McKay and Ben Dillon making the trip over along with rookie Graeme Knuckey in the newly acquired ex Mike Rinkin Hawk Aggressor.
Victorian drivers are keen to take the glory for themselves. Fresh off his 4th place and “first Aussie home” claim at the recent Rondalee 50 Lap Speedcar Classic is Travis “Squizzy” Mills. Looking for another solid performance, Squizzy is excited about the calibre of drivers he is again up against.
Peter Ghent has many SA Titles to his credit but has never managed to acquire his own state championship, will this be his year?
Expat Victorian Troy “Flash” Jordan, who already has one Victorian Championship under his belt, would surely7 like to add another but the likes of Darren Power (who has four to his name), Craig Hume, Craig Smith and David Crabtree have other ideas. Second generation racer Andy Pearce would love to add this to his credentials, 22 years after his dad Wayne claimed victory at Brooklyn’s Speedbowl.
May 22nd at Wangaratta City Raceway is definitely going to be the place to be if you want to see the best midget drivers in the country battle it out to be crowned the 2010 Lucas Oils Victorian Speedcar Champion.
