It looked to me (only watching on Speedbox) that the tier two event had about maybe 8-10 cars missing and the tier three event only had 10-12 cars. I made the following observation at the time... well yelled at the TV which I often do when I see a "better" way of playing or reff'ing a game ;D Could they not just have incorporated it into one comp, even if they added them altogether (total about 33-35???) split them in half for two qualifying heats each (reverse grid) then the top 26 (or however many are left running) thru to 3 heat finals. This would mean 7 races instead of the 6 programed but with weather delays some things posssibly needed to be jigged around and would have prob made for better racing for the crowd.
Not trying to take anything away from Rotorua, who by all reports did a great job, but just trying to think outside of the tunnel.

didn't something similar happen at kk last year? on paper the cars are there to make two full (consulation) groups but thru attrition, costs, etc. the numbers fall away very quickly.
it will be interesting to see what huntly does for next years champs... I like your idea, ramjam
maybe two groups of however many, top 13 go thru to one heat 10 lapper to find grid positions then a 20+ lap final. then we could run another support class... just a thought

tier 2 had 28 tier 3 had 11 because a few left a few broken and a few parked in pits chose to watch instead of race

I know it was the main show that people were there for and thats where the focus was for the organisers but it just seems funny that there were 6 empty grids in one lot and only 5 cars more than that in the other.

Having something to fill the gap in the program may have been a problem if there was a group less.

That's true - but more standard stocks would have been an entertaining possibility, keeping it an all stockcar meeting (yes, the modifieds were there but they were hitting more than the 3rd tier cars so we can count them as honorary stockies for the night).

thing is the low numbers were brought about at a late stage due to weather and damage etc. hard to plan for.

thing is the low numbers were brought about at a late stage due to weather and damage etc. hard to plan for. yup understand if there were no weather delays both would have had near full fields prob but with the delay they maybe took their eye off the ball on the second and third tier. put two groups of 16ish out for two heats each then three heats for the top 26 (if there are still that many running) gives you 7 races instead of the 6 they used so no extra class should be needed. HAVING SAID ALL THAT THO.... It's too late to change anything now and they were there to run the main show and by all accounts they did that very well so fair doo's to them. I havn't heard anyone saying that the tier 2 & 3 affected their enjoyment of the meeting, just making an observation.

Tier 2 had 26 cars as the repechage had 28, the top 2 going through and the remaining 26 were Tier 2. Only about 20 made it out though, due to damage in the repechage.

I think the work in planning and behind the scenes at a meeting this big would be enormous . Not that easy to change things around in the middle of an event . Was still a brilliantly run meeting in all .

Another reason to get rid of bloody reperchage's out of contact racing, the qualifiers should always be known at the end of night 1. The fact the TAB were still taking bets on the likes of Wayne Hemi right up till start time is another
