Glad Marty isn't an international trader been a long time since the USD was worth half the NZD lol yes was thinking that myself, is actually closer to 0.778 when I did a conversion earlier today, so the USD$5000 would be closer to NZD$6500 Would make for cheaper conversions from Stockcar to superstock....help the class gain a few more numbers.

Grunter. Who the hell do you think you are to insinuate we don't have the right to be out there with the bigger spenders? I and plenty of others spend what we can afford and would rather race a superstock than a standard. My car may not be high spec or high horsepower but over its time its been pretty reliable and Im sure the bumper hasnt bent for no reason. Infact it has even been used to teams race with a very budget motor. If you look carefully you will find there are plenty in the standard stock class spending more than 10k and still not winning. I have nothing but admiraton for anyone that gets out there, no matter what they drive, spend or earn. I spose if you have the millions that you must obviously have please share it round so the rest of us poor guys can get to the front. Actually NA, Id rather be a nuisance than wait for your expensive motor to explode!! P.S. Im putting a stock standard Toyota in right now just to annoy you lol. Jeff See

Great post Jeff.
I applaude anyone with the initiative to grow our sport, and see this idea as fantastic and nothing but positive.
Sure it might take away a little business from those already established at hotrod Jap engine builders, but they can adapt and it would also open up morte of a market for US engine specialists within our sport perhaps.
Look forward to seeing the progress with this engine.

Are you joking..... do you really think a $10k engine is going to be on the pace of the big boys - Dont Think So! Save your time and spend it on your stockcar and when you can afford to race superstocks - then buy one and go racing... Hi Grunter, which superstock do you drive? Tried looking at your profile but there is nothing there.

not quite right Josh chev at 500 horse power to make it reliable 60-80k at this stage if it gets past the trial stage it wont be a control engine rather an option at this stage for those that want to use it ....don't jump too far ahead you will be giving some drivers and engine builders panic attacks lol

if you throw 10grand at a 350 chev youll have more than 500hp.beats throwing 60grand at a toyota or nissan to maybe get 500hp The point is that it is a factory sealed engine, you will not be allowed to try and work it up to 500hp. I understand the aim is about 420 hp and that should make it reasonably competitive with all but the top few cars. Bring it on.

I doubt there are more than 3 cars with 500 hp if any. No one will tell you so make up all the storys you want. Most top superstocks are between 400 and 450 hp.

Why bother when you can get a CSL or Hartley engine for $30k thats already proven. If people can't afford that, maybe they should try or stay in stockcars and leave the superstocks alone. 30k, cant believe that! I heard csl cams will do you a ministock motor for 6k and thats you suppling the motor!!! Also so heard thats these holden motors from Hartley's for a stockcar are 30k! If it cost you 30k for a new super motor then why do you have to pay 60k 70k for a super that you may win in? I hope these new motors do come in. Ive wanted to buy a stocky for a long time now but haven't because of the cost!! So i enjoy watching but wish i was out there!!!

Ha ha grunter, bring your super fast super stock to HB and come race with the local Stockcars, I would put my money on a DNF.
Just for the record as well, I race these days just for fun, and don't have time to go all over NZ running a SuperStock, so am happy just being out there doing my thing.

I cant get the pdf to open, so how complete is the chevy? Carb, manifold, flywheel etc supplied?
The reason I ask is my Toyota superstock engine cost; (roughly) Import motor $1500 Cams and valve springs $1000 Headwork $1000 Bottom end work $1500 Carb and manifold (refurbished 2nd hand) $800 $5800 = 392hp@6800rpm. (torque peak at 5200rpm)
Now all I need is the rest of the car ;D

Not really, most competent engine builders will do the basic work for that kind of money, this is just general reco work, not precision race engine building, I do all the stripping and reassembly myself.
eg heads, crack test, skimmed to 9.9-1, cam journals line bored, restrictors in the oilways and external oil return ports, $1k tops.
I'm more interested to know what comes with thease chevy's that come in.
