Opening Meeting – GM & Nelson
Hi all,
Have been co-opted by the club to be the new promoter at Greenstone Park Speedway, and subsequently its taking up more of my time and energy, both creatively and organisationally. Unfortunately this has had an impact on the quality of updates on this little OAS page, which I’m yet to find a way to rectify. Suffice to say energy levels have been tested in the opening to this season.
This best way to restore energy levels is to resort to quality tunes – so here’s my favourite lift for the moment, and might take over from Rage against the machine as the teams racing motivation – I just love the intro - like all the best ones it lasts 1.20 long and just lifts then drops you back into it - awesome. John Paul Jones(Led Zep), Josh Hommes (Queens of the stone age), Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) say no more.
Olly and I made it too the opening meeting, as did 12 locals, and one very late visitor in recka rico. He decided to go to CHCH which was a fatal mistake and got rained out, so hung a right at Kaikoura and got to Greymouth in time to watch the 3 rd race. We felt sorry for him, so put on a 4th race for the bro, and he made the most of it by hitting or being hit by every car there.
Next time we might have to pay him to turn up to all 3 races, as I think the crowd loved it, and will be looking forward to the red bus coming into our pits again
.
The car went all right, but still used water. We reckon the radiator caps don’t have a high enough pressure rating, so we changed them for nelson, and that made a huge difference. Not only did it not use much water, put the temperature of the motor stayed a lot lower, which was also awesome.
Olly got amongst it and wrecked two more front rims, to add to the 8 he did last season, but also had a good win in one of the races.
He kept on going, and took a few swings at a few different people, and got a few hits and bent the side rails nicely, so he’s in for a good season I reckon, and will be meeting one of his goals for the season (listed on the driver profile of the greenstone park website - links here greenstonepark.co.nz/viewpage.php?page_id=1
Heaps of photos as usual of all classes at coast photos
coastphotos.org/Photo/index.php?level=album&id=24 but for some reason I’m just struggling to get any to work for me at the moment – no matter what I try they can’t seem to post up. Oh well. Will pinch this one form Craigs picture board post - Olly makes me a better driver, so hopefully now i'm slowly getting better I can make him one too Lovin the look of that new teams racing wheel gaurd olly, and can't wait to see how much more hp your new exhaust will have this weekend - now I'll really be in trouble.
There some stockcar images here from the opening meeting, but they are all copyrighted, so not sure if that means I’m allowed to post them or what

I went up to nelson for their opening meeting, with three goals. Wanted to not roll, put a couple of dents in the front bumper, and win a race. Well, good news I didn’t roll, got a little payback in heat one, but also had gearbox issues which meant I only had a drive gear in the rest of the races on the night.
Made me a bit of a sitting duck starting in 3rd, but we managed to get a few pushes from behind to get going – thanks to Trevor Lineham in his hot new car that has some pace, and Ash Kelly, who also has some serious pace for the push starts.
Heres some good footage of the superstocks and stockcars in Nelson – think i feature once which is a good lesson I think.
Overall was a good night, and good to get some more laps in. Hopefully we will see a heap of Nelson guys come down for the South Island champs on December 9 and 10, as they have some real good cars that are right up there on the pace. I think I did a 17 sec lap in all 3 races, and I think most of the rest of the field did as well – that’s some fast cars. The ones that didn’t were blocking so that was good to see early on.
We are racing again tomorrow with the 29 Lap saloon car salute, with another 5 local cars to debut, so hopefully we will be around the 17 mark with just local cars – and awesome effort. Racing starts at 2, and with 12 of the best saloons from around the south island we will be in for a good day.
Also quickly needed to add - we have a new OAS driver thanks to Kev the Rev Haymen, aka doda, aka olderdabetta etc. He very kindly has invited Andree the worker to peddle the 41gm Rees chassis, and he got off to a good start last weekend by attacking the tank, and hitting another car on the red lights, bending the bumper round on the other car. I think he will fit right in.
p.s forgot to add in the you didn;t come over and introduce yourself Bini - will catch up next time! UNless you did and I forgot haha sorry if that was the case shes busy these days with the added jobs
