Looking at the entries, there is obviously going to be some very strong representation from some tracks. Be interesting once the groups come out, but I think this champs is shaping up to be pretty interesting in terms of teams tactics coming into play. Particularly after seeing the Huntly Teams meeting, and the Rees Shield races, I think teams racing is getting stronger, and so can only guess that way of thinking and skills will carry over to the champs. Helping out club mates (or allies) is nothing new, but I just think we could be in for an interesting one! What's everyone else's take?

Hi screamin,
Good start to a thread. I'm almost of the opinion that the teams effect in stockcars is almost non exsistant.
Reason:
Huge numbers in stockcars means its a lottery to qualify right? Wrong - the best of the best will get through, and there is usually only 1 or 2 at that level in each club (barring wellington with there history of 1nzs in this class, but even the two time winner has retired from the class).
Given this scenario, your lucky to get 3 or 4 cars from one track through in my humble opinon.
The home track will obviously have an advantage, and there is without doubt a large continbent of top class machinery in rotorua - there are a heap of hotrods.
But can these guys stick together? Rotorua has struggled to put together a team, and they seem very content to "race" there way through the meeting.
Through in the mix the "deal making" that happens before heat 3, and you could be in for similar result to Blenheim last year. The cream (and speed) rising to the top.
My pick will still be that a teams racer will hopefully win it - at the least, teams racing gives drivers the chance to work all the weak bits out of the cars, and keep them running over two days of hard racing.
Will be interested to hear others thoughts on this title, and how it might play out.

Some clubs seem to have a culture of track loyalty while others don't. The various championship winners from Wellington and Palmerston North have been helped out by club mates. The current 1NZ has helped others out in the past and as they say what goes around comes around. Even for those that do benefit from club loyalty have to first get themselves up there in points in the first 2 heats, so any winner has earned their title in my book.
