Can anyone tell me if it matters if you put the torsions bars on top of the diff instead of the bottom?(torsion bar arm)

i can only assume you want to mount them higher because you have more room to do it that way?
look at it this way, sprintcars front torsions are mounted on top of the axle
the main thing to remember is to mount the torsions at the very rear of the car because the ends of the cars move the most and you also want to mount the arms as wide as possable (close to the wheels) as you can

my dad had torsion bars on the rear of his superstock, he had his mounted quite close to the ground hanging off the bottom of the bumper and occassionaly the RR arm got broken when he got put up the wall sideways but other than that they were strong, we ended up finding steel spline clamps units and made our own arms in the shape of an I beam,
the other thing to be aware of is that the bar arms that mount to the diff have to be free to move sideways eg slide on a bolt
also when the arms are on the torsion bars make sure there is a about 2 or 3mm gap between the arm and the tube bearing that the bar sits in, because when the torsion bar twists it shortens in length slightly thats why if u hav that gap there it wont bind and snap the bar

best position for front bars is around axle height and the rear bars should be mounted below axel center line for best weight transfer if you mount them too high the car wont get any side bite and will just drift up the track also make sure the arms going to the axel are as wide apart and as close to the wheels (inside) as you can have them without the risk of rubbing the tyres hope this helps Cheers Martin Halcrow / Halcrow Race Cars
