I have the standard two stalks and breathers on my left bank and a crossover tube from the right bank, oil is still coming out a lot through the left hand breathers(hence all the smoke), has anybody got a picture of an alternative system eg. a reservoir or firewall mounted breather type? Even better somebody whou could organise this for me

Make sure your rocker covers have the oil splash plates over the bottom of the breather hole inside the covers.Make sure the lifters r correct ones, if incorrect they can deliver to much oil to heads & top half of engine etc.Check oil pressure,if to high could b relief valve in oilpump.Does it still have good oil pressure when warm etc.

thanks for that, yep have splash plates/baffles ove the bottom of the breather holes. WIll check what the oil pressure is when warm

I assume you're running roller gear in your engine. Check to see if you have an upper block oil restrictor,if so has it fallen out??? Make sure too that your oil level is correct. If you're running a stick, make sure its the right one.If dry sump, make sure youre not overfull in the tank and the tank is breathing correctly and not restricted. The system of breathers you're running works well and it would be the best all round and accessable way to do it. Let us know how you get on.

easy fix chevies & rovers have a habit of pumping all the oil up top run an over flow pipe from rh tappit cover rear down to sump so the oil can flow back we have one if u want to have a look . bring tea bag

Pete, not running roller rockers, and no oil restrictors. Oil psi is about 70 when just 'warm' will have to take note what it is after racing next time. wet sump

is the engine mechanically sound first, has this problem only just developed? It would nt hurt to do a cylinder leakage test to make sure you havnt got excessive blowby and a good baseline to work with .So i gather you just have pressed steel long slot rockers, do they have the grooved pivot balls, if so u could get away with running oil restrictors which would help your cause

Had a similar problem with my Mod motor. The engine was exactly the same albeit a 357cid and I had it offset 2" and layed over on its side 15 degrees. Back then the cross over type breather system was not seen too much and we used to run two reasonably tall stacks on the L/H rocker cover with K & N filters on the end. Inside the stacks I welded 4 half circle baffles in,flat edge facing back down towards the engine. Each baffle was about 30mm apart and the flats were staggered around each over so it the oil would have to 'screw' its way out. Made for a slow poor when you did an oil change but certainly stopped the oil,oil everywhere thing happening. Hope that helps a bit. Pete

more symptoms, i am also loosing a lot of coolant, constantly drippling out the overflow, tried a new radiator cap but no change. loosing about 2L during a race, is this possibly a blown head gasket, causing the coolant system to pressurise too much?
