Paul, Have you rang PG Hydraulics for a price to go over your box or is it beyond repair?? The guys at PG's are real fair in the pricing dept. I would hazard a guess that a 2nd hand modified Saginaw box would either be stuffed or way dearer than repairing your one. If it needs kitting, you can get a kit from Garry Ingram at Motospecs/Pioneer equipment for a Chev saginaw box and your local powersteer repairers in ChCh could go through it for you and that would save some $$$$. If you get the kit and send me the box,I could do it at work for you if you get stuck. We do auto's,manuals and power steering repairs. We are knocking off on the 22nd and wont be back at work till the 4th of Jan. Let me know how ya get on.

Did a wee bit of home work on the box for ya. The only expensive bit would be if you had to REPLACE the servo which is effectively the input shaft and unit which has a torsion bar type shaft in it.The bar twists just a little when you turn the wheel and that determines the direction for the internal valve in the servo to open and give you the power assist. Another idea could be to go to a jap box out of the Mitsy or Toyota or Nissan and mount it up front close to the axle and drive it through spockets and a chain aala like a ministock set up.You then run a drag link across from your box to the LH side steering arm and just have the tie rod like normal to the other side.Tankers have run this set up for years and I think the REES cars use the same deal using XF Falcon Power steer boxes. The saginaw set up is altered so it goes in the right direction which is why you need a little experience in getting then back together. The Jap boxes are reasonably cheap and easy to get hold of anywhere so you could afford to carry a spare. They do work as Ive had plenty to do with building a few standard stocks and that was the way we did it and I cant remember having ANY steering issues at all. A bit of engineering and mucking round now could be worth it against having your Saginaw box fail again. There are notorious for leaks too against the japers which are pretty good in that regard. Oh and most of the time they are lighter against the Yank deal(even with the sprockets chain etc. Keep me posted.

WANTED PG SAGINAW STEERING BOX PLEASE. cheers Paul

Paul sorry for not getting back to you sooner if you have tryed what i advised and the pipes are the right way round the presser pipe to the top and the return to the bottom then get the valve checked this is way cheaper than a getting another box it has most likely blowen a teflon ring or the orings under the teflons have gone hard very easy to replace and not that expensive even if a new/ second hand valve is required, (this is a standard saginaw item tell your power steering man that) it will still be cheaper than another box and save you time if you are goinig to get another box which i recomend you don't! make sure the shaft is the same lenght as there are different ones once again sorry about the delay p.s this should only take a hour to replace parts if still no go ring P.Gs with credit card and he will send one on a courer to your door should be there for chrismas Rhody Game

big thanks to Pete,Roaddog and Southernman.well there seems to be a father Christmas after all.got a pm from southernman who told me to take it to Doug Smith's power steer shop.well just got a ring to say that they can repair it ;D ;D ;D.it seems it has a broken pin in it .so any body wanting powersteer repairs go and see Ron at Doug Smith's.he also told me of a place down south where i can get parts for these box's.they are going to put a seal kit in it as well and price around $300-$400.when i first rang him he said he can fix anything and i believe him.so guy's thanks again for all your help.just have to tell the wife she is getting a steering box for Christmas and i want to use it.Pete hope to get to nelson before end of season or easter to do some racing so would be good to meet you. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all Cheers Paul.
