Oh c'mon all you keyboard warriors....you've spent all weekend all trying to work it out if Peter Rees is in or out this weekend....do you not realise Peter wasn't knocked out? He was simply looking down for the earpiece that fell out when he hit the wall & didnt see the pace car..... There ya go busterbell.....another conspiracy theory to dwell on.... that is funny... what ear piece??? are you suggesting he was breaking rules whilst wide awake looking down crashing into pace ute???

Manawatu Evening Standard Long haul for Rees after fractures Not back in the speedway race yet. KATHRYN KING free screen capturePalmerston North teen Ethan Rees won't be back in the race as soon as he had hoped as his injuries from a speedway crash take longer than expected to heal. Ethan Fafeita-Rees, 16, known in the speedway fraternity as Ethan Rees, suffered a fractured eye socket and cheekbone, fractured shoulder blade, three fractured ribs and a collapsed lung in an accident at Arena Manawatu on December 28 last year. Ethan was knocked out in the crash and spent a week in Palmerston North Hospital. But yesterday, just over a month on from the crash, the bruising to his face had healed and his shoulder and ribs were feeling much better. But, still plagued by short-term memory problems, he would have to start attending a concussion clinic. "I was pretty confident about getting in this season at the end of the year, but my checkup didn't go so good, so it's probably got to wait until next season." The season finishes in April with a few "open days", which he hoped to take part in, he said. The crash had scuttled his plans to start an apprenticeship as a car painter in early January. He isn't allowed to start that until March. "I was pretty gutted, eh." While he wasn't allowed in a car, he was at the speedway on the weekend to watch his now-repaired vehicle race. While his body heals, he isn't sitting idle. There was housework to be done, he said.

That rule is still talking about concussion, rather than KO... Can we now safely assume that Pete was concussed as well as KO'd *facepalm* I think what Biggsy is trying to say is that in the rules it only states about a competitor being 'Concussed' not about a competitor being 'Knocked Out'. With that being said I'm sure that there could/should be a way around that rule for Peter.

As much as I would love to see Pete out on the track on the weekend, shouldnt matter if he was concussed or ko'd, he still needs time to make sure he is right, cause he could take an even bigger hit and be worse off. We should be encouraging him to take the time, so that he is fit for the rest of the season.

It doesn't rely on a doctor's diagnosis - he is out. The only thing a doctor can do, and it has to be one selected by SNZ, is possibly get him back 7 days early (22 down to 15 days). Whatever the case, he needs medical clearance before he races again. Would be keen on reading said article too. Let's do it on the terracotta, Barry B let me re-word, should he wish to race, it relies on any doctors diagnosis that he was not concussed. that's only if a medical officer had not already diagnosed concussion at the scene and has been noted in his licence. i am assuming that was not the case otherwise there would not be all this furor. we have all seen doctors, we tell them whats wrong and they prescribe the appropriate remedy. the point when the patient doesn't know is when the doctor doesn't either and starts guessing. at this point he can be manipulated to diagnose in your favour.

I haven't read all the comments and I apologize if I have missed something but some of the comments I have read blow me away, surely the most important thing is Pete's welfare. Let's remember people can die of brain injuries, think about it this is why we have the Peter Barry Memorial. Short term we have Pete racing, long term we have Pete enjoying a long life and his family. A knock out whether concussed or not takes time to heal.

The furor is only because you are on macgor's and won't let it go (along with others that cannot read). Pete is out, he knows it, I know it, you need to know it - end of story!!! There is NO "should he wish to race" in this story.......even after the 22 days is up he needs a medical clearance. Let it go busterbell! Get back to the annual biased referees and the rigged draw whinge Let's do it on the terracotta, Barry B

Sonja H totally agree take the time to read up on "post concussion Syndrome" as well. makes inetresting reading and it would seem Ethan may well come under that from the story earlier on him. issues from head injuries and concussions, nocked out or not, can go on for months or even longer
