I also think it's great that Huntly have gone the extra mile to provide some additional information for this event. What they've provided is a mix of good and bad.
I'm pleased to see they require each team to have a Mascot. Mascots are a great way to get the kids involved in the racing as they have the ability to break down barriers. I'm also pleased that they have released the format prior to the event so fans can get their head around it before attending the event. Finally, as is usual for Huntly, attending drivers have been listed. Isn't it great to see a field of 25 Streetstocks in the upper north island.
Can you believe according to their website that Waikaraka Park are not running Streetstocks Saturday night? What the hell? You've got 25 Streetstocks from all over the North Island racing an hour down the road on Friday night and your not running them the following night? Granted some will head to Stratford for the Taranaki champs but I imagine you'd get a field of at least 15 for Waikaraka Park. They'e running Six Shooters instead. Who comes up with this stuff?
There is also some crazy stuff from Huntly. A 6pm grand parade on Friday night? Nobody is going to be there at 6pm! At that time it might be logistically easier to get the fans to do a grand parade of the pits to introduce themselves rather than getting the drivers on track. I also see they've decided to sabotage their own meeting by adding the dire combination of Ministocks and Production Saloons just in case the meeting threatens to exceed value for money. They had the balance right when it was teams plus Streetstocks plus Historics. I imagine the reason is something to do the tow trucks etc. Yet other tracks manage to run teams racing only nights no problems at all.
The result is a marathon 22 event schedule on Friday plus 5 times warmups. So it's really about a 25 event schedule, which is ridiculous. Saturday looks like a more realistic schedule.
Speedway needs to focus on quality over quantity, not long drawn out affairs like we will be subjected to on Friday night.

I love how youve already judged the night based on information and not on what you experience when you are there... Oh wait - it hasnt even happened yet!! C'mon Percy, you know they will have a plan in place to stop themselves from going too far over time. hell thats probably why the parade is at 6pm to start with. And its a 22 event schedule - not including parade. I would say that the reason for including production saloons and ministocks is not only to flesh out the meeting but to include some non-contact classes for those who arent quite as into it as the rest of the crowd.

Anyone can point out what went wrong with an event after it has happened. The trick is to be able to look at an event and pick apart what works and what doesn't to optimise the event before it happens. The Friday night schedule is not optimal.
Ministocks and Productions are going to provide entertainment to non-contact fans?? To quote a famous brand "Yeah Right".

Been there! Done that! Last time we tried that we got about 4 cars who came through to race at Waikaraka. Most of these Streetstock drivers can't fix their cars overnight or have lost the urge to race so soon after racing 24 hours earlier at Huntly. Good suggestion in theory but doesn't work in reality.

Hey Percival, they can always remove them if not needed, bit hard to get them in if not at the track.
Apart from fillers they can be used to settle the track or fill the programme so teams can fix cars.
Let old farts get up to walk around, constant teams racing may be hard on some peoples hearts?

WAIKATO SANDBLASTING SERVICES STOCKCAR TEAMS INVITATIONAL EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL NEXT WEEKEND, 21 & 22 NOVEMBER 2014. Yep, sadly the weather has won and with Huntly Speedway absolutely drenched, and the forecast not positive either, we have had no choice but to make the call to postpone until next weekend. All Team Managers have been spoken to and we look forward to seeing you all at the Track for this "must see" Event next weekend. Everything will remain the same as this weekend, at this stage. We will inform you if there are any changes. Regards, WSSCC Comm. www.huntlyspeedway.co.nz

Nigel....I was going to merely "like" your post but I didn't want people thinking that I'm liking that the event has been postponed lol. My like would have been purely on the basis that it is great that the call has been made early for us out of towners who plan to make the trip to Huntly. More importantly I guess teams travelling from far and wide appreciate the early call. Agree Barry the weather isn't looking too flash!! Next weekend it is then......

Changes to next weekend are as follows... Friday Night: Streetstocks will not be running. Saturday Night: Super Stocks have been added to the programme. It is with real regret we advise that the Tasman Thunder Stockcar Team will not be able to come up next week, due to drivers & crew having work commitments that can't be avoided. The WSSCC are gutted they will not be able to make it and want to take this opportunity to thank them all for trying their absolute hardest to make it to the rescheduled date, but sadly it is not be. We will now be running a 9 Team Event. New formats will be added to the website, when done... www.huntlyspeedway.co.nz
