So I am new to ministocks and as such I need to ask the questions
1. Parts a. Becoming hard to source. ie coil over diff and Datsun front ends b. Price Is over the top expensive. Because they know if we want to race we will pay for it
2. Rules A. Why is there no room to move and make changes if they system is starting to suffer B. What is the purpose of the class, is it for the rich or is it for people to get into the sport C. Why is it that if there is an issue people stick there heads in the sand
So I brought a half finished car and it came with a diff housing, it had no mounts on it but after asking the question I cannot make mounts even if they are in the same place as it may give me an advantage Advantage is not having to pay upwards of $500 for a new housing and that's even if I can find one
So is it time to get the powers that be together and make some changes for the betterment of the class
As I see it if things don't change the class will wither as it gets priced out of the average person
This is not a dig at speedway nz or at anyone at all
But if some cars can get dispensation from some rules why not others if it proved that it makes no difference to the car and the item is damaged or broken why can it not then be fixed even if you have to frabricate to do so

Welcome to Ministocks however it appears you made the 1st fatal mistake, buying an incomplete car. We have been involved with ministock racing for 3x years now and bought a complete, good competitive car on a good trailer with spares for $5000. It is not an expensive sport even compared to go karts, (which we have also done). Get in with a club and you will find competitors with heaps of spare's and advise. Parts are not an issue, we currently have 2x race cars with 4x spare unused coil over diff's, front ends etc We have bought rusty banger B310's for as little as $250 and no more than $1000 which gives you everything you need.
Rules are in place to keep things fair and transparent in any sport and ministock rules are very simple compared to most other classes. They are only a problem for people who don't want to read them or accept them and work within them. Dispensations are not easily achieved and generally only are granted where there is a safety issue. I have seen some terrible home built/half finished project ministocks, which have not been built to the reg's and rather than accept that they haven't read the rules properly etc, and made the necessary changes the owners have simply argued black and blue before giving up and selling the chassis to some poor unsuspecting buyer to do the same. I have read posts of this type before and offered to sell parts to competitors crying about the lack of parts and the cost but not 1 of them have ever contacted me back?? My advise is sell your project, buy a good, proven, complete, green sheeted race car and go out and enjoy the sport.

And if your Ministock is for a Youth racer, stay away from buying any that have been raced by Adults as they've probably been hammered.

not to burst your bubble, but parts are hard to find as no-one will let any parts go because finding them is getting harder and harder i have asked around and put posts on facebook and on here but to no avail, search tradme on Datsun parts and see how much come up they car itself is ok, i have measured it and got most of what i need so no real issues i have managed to find 1 diff but it has one mount that was torn off in a crash so next issue is to find a matching mount if you look around the place things are getting harder to get and as they get more scarce then the price goes up you say you have a couple of spare housings if you do would you part with one for a reasonable price?? to put this in contex i have located 2 x complete axle housings (leave spring) one for $80 and one for $150 so i am currently gearing up to cut all the coil over mounts on the car off and use the leave spring type. i am not moaning, but when i am also racing a stockcar, which is my main focus i am trying to give my partner and my newphew a taste of racing, but the budget is tight i dont have unlimited funds for me i help anyone that i can because i know the sport is expensive but all sports are, i have access to Odessey batterys, perfect ones for stockcars and mini-stocks, they are second hand but still really good RRP is close to $500, but because i get them for free i give them away for free, i believe that the day will come when i ask for help someone will help me to, but we all know that would be far and few between so while there were parts of your argument i agree with there are parts i dont, but i do thankyou for your candid response and appreciate you take on the situation cheers Jason

You haven't burst my bubble bud, there will be a shortage of parts inevitably however there are still good parts available and much of it new still. Trademe is not the only source and certainly those that are selling them on there are scalping the market. Our club members are all keen to share and repair each others spare parts and keep cars running so like I said, talk to your club mates.
