How it it that we are now dicussing where turn 1-2 start and finish. It's quite clearly in the rule book which is avaliable for everyone to read. Someone got injured. Why don't we look at what went on in the incident that caused this. There is no need for a discussion on whether it was a legal move or not. We should be looking at speed, how he contacted the wall not was be in the wrong The reason why is because the commentators played at being Ref and called it as an illegal move. I agree that how he got hurt needs to be looked at including speed , angle of contact. safety gear , seat, car design and materials used in it's build. If it's decided that the hit was illegal and as he was the attacking car then not using the rule in teams racing makes no sense. I dont think the teams rule never made sense macgor .i think they were more worried what it would do to teams racing, Thats why i said they wanted there cake and eat it , over the weekend there looked to be plenty off rule breaches as the rule is written up,were there any fines ??

Let's face it though. If Hewson had pulled over to give Vallance the win it would have only given him one more point and made no difference in the great scheme of things. And Vallance killed any hope of having back up in the third race by publicly announcing "if the R don't back me up there's a club meeting next weekend" that doesn't get you back up, it gets you a loss of respect. hewson shld have never worried about racing for points after that first heat he shld have been doing what he could to slow palmy cars down yes it still may not have made a diff but atleast he could say he tried Well I hope you will be out on the track next season with $60,000 plus of machinery helping out someone that has a bad attitude to win since you know what should have been done in that spur of a moment. Give the man a break. It was a individual championship.

I take my hat off to Nick Vallance , first year out in a new car and oh so close to a podium in Nz,s biggest Superstock event .. And he has gone exceptionally well this season. He will be one to watch in the future .....

Not the best nz champs been to by fair stretch, combination of things. Result was foregone conclusion palmy 123 after first heat. Old man, sister and I picked one car to win each before heat one, got 1,2,4. Kinda sad to win, almost impossible now if not contracted to palmy. Only good for one club in the country that outcome, not that its their fault i think the other clubs simply dont work as well to help their fellow clubmen out, although im sure they try hard and its hard to fight of the number of cars with a P on them. my example of the night is in heat 2, why would 135R flag race after a poor heat one in the end to deny a fellow clubmen 45R one important point. its these small things that happen i find quite strange. At the end of the day that one point made little difference. It really is up to the cars from other tracks to take the fight to the Palmy cars. For whatever reason they rarely manage it. The Palmy cars deserve the accolades. That one point may have made a difference if 135R had taken/slowed some P cars from getting high points in that race then 45R would have had more and the points going into the last race would have been different but he left the P cars alone to get high points and thats why they were so close. A lot of people are bagging the drivers for working together but each made their own choices, any track could have done it and the results would be different, the P drivers just did it. But at the end of the day the cars with the 1, 2, & 3 on them had to race, hit and stay out of trouble, they deserve their titles.

I disagree with this. Palmy had 10 out of 26 cars in the final. If the drivers from the other clubs wanted to prevent a Palmy win they could easily do so. The surprises for me were 19c siding with palmy and Hemi saying that he had not been approached by any drivers but still saying that he is a panther (how long since they wanted him?) and going out to help them anyway. I personally would have preferred 45r or 58p to win but lost hope for 45r as soon as 118 pulled out. I also genuinely believe that the new rule had a very strong impact on the result of the finals and the run offs, and not in a positive way. Take on Mr Rees if you're a guy like Malcolm, fat chance, remember one man bands need to pick battles, plus friendships go beyond club lines. Well Pete did say it in his interview when asked if he was worried about being targeted his reply along the lines, lets see if they have the guts" well Pete does hit back pretty hard and is good at it. And once a panther always a panther! Any track could have banded together, none of our guys said this is your job, they just looked at the points and knew what they could do to help bring the title to the track, other drivers didn't do that and didn't look at the big picture in heat two. 135R should have slowed some cars after a DNF and that could have changed the outcome. But he didn't look at his club standings only his own, yes a individual title but at the end of the day it goes home to a track and if you can't get it help your club mate bring it home.

I think Palmys drivers just know they will get a turn to win if they are team players, if they have reasonable pace, whereas other clubs don't have the numbers or depth. The top 2 guys are known as 2 of the best blocker/hitters in the country more than their racing. Finally got their paybacks for years of helping clubmates. They are a force to be reckoned with, just look at the Palmy guys who did not make the Finals cut. Its a tough call to wreck thousands of dollars of gear to take out one of an army, making an enemy, when you don't know if your clubmates would (or even could) help you in the future, let alone drivers from other clubs.

I disagree with this. Palmy had 10 out of 26 cars in the final. If the drivers from the other clubs wanted to prevent a Palmy win they could easily do so. 11 out of 26 I think it was once Barr won his Repechage, which means 15 from all other tracks combined. It'd be a pretty big call to expect drivers from maybe 7 or 8 different tracks, and two different Islands, to pool their resources to provide all of the benefits to just one. And even then, with the skill and experience of the Panther team members, 15 may very well not beat 11 anyway. Politics aside, I still don't think they "could easily do so". Barry B You have a point re the skill of the Panther drivers, they know how to work as a team and put ego aside and do the job. I still think those saying it was fine from heat one are wrong some drivers with DNF Could have impacted cars with high points keeping the points down and making it harder. Maybe still would be P title but...

My point is, a slightly greater numerical advantage does not guarantee a victory.

Theres a few ppl dishing it out to Hewson on here. He raced for points and good on him. Drivers have podiumed before with a dnf and 2 good races. Penn was 2nz I'm sure from 2 race wins and a dnf back a while.
If people are going to point the finger at Hewson, why not also mention 351r and 95r. Both out of the running really and defo not helpful in heat 3. When they gridded up for heat 3 and Steiner wasn't there, Vallances chances went down straight away in my opinion. People can't just point a finger at Hewson.
There were some surprise helpers from a Palmy point of view. 67p nailed 18n, a lesser known P racer who put car and points on the line. And Hemi, straight from start, took Vallance to the grass and basically cost him a lap. Hemi trying to prove a teams racing point? Gain some kudos within the P teams selection process?

Here is a video of the Ace/Barr runoff, again from bevanw2 on youtube.
It looks a lot more borderline from this angle, this is about where I was sitting too. Will be interesting to see what (if anything) comes of it. Good to hear Chad is OK(ish).

Its the evolution of the class...A combination of technical and racing rules, has shaped superstocks into high horsepowered tensile beasts that cant be contained...thus ambiguous rules cant contain the heat of the moment racing decisions of drivers... we use to moan about pole line cutters, now its over aggressive attacking entering a corner... THIS SPORT IS DANGEROUS...take the siderails off? its a unique class...but if we keep going down this road you guys well just be racing heavy sprintcars:)

Good on them for finally working it out.

Ummmm anyone remember 51p Paul Grant helping Dave Evans pick up one of his NZ titles in a new three heat format? Anyone (prob the same PPL who remember there above) remember Dave Evans helping Gary Parkes won an NZ title on the dog track? Just a couple of examples I can think of off the top of my head that didn't exactly happen yesterday.

Maybe more than once in a race and more than one other racer.

All the drama and what not aside, a big shout out to not only the safety crew but a quick thinking tractor driver. Could have been a repeat of Roydon Collingwood full throttle through the infield and into the wall at Rotorua 240s? a few years ago.

and there is no rule but if rotorua don't wanna have 1nz then keep doing what the rotorua guys are doing and they will succed in not winning 1nz for a long time

Ok oh wise one lets see how clever you are; Question: Why is it important to you that Vallance gives Hewson a hard time?
