When did they limit Saloons to 10:1 mine has always been 12.5:1 and not keen on changing it if I ever get the old girl out again... couldve sworn i saw it when i was reading through last - but now ive gone to look again its not there, maybe was reading wrong part of the rule book? theres no compression limit in the new one... I think you have it confused with Modifieds, they are 10:1

okay first post from a new user here. Looking at building up a chevy engine 355 cu in, for a saloon car. My question is the cylinder heads as relates to the rulebook. Book says that i can run any V8 factory head as i have lots of the chevy closed chamber heads 041, 186, 461, 462 as I have built up lots of street car engines over the years. The good thing about all these castings I have is they have not been ported at all. I can recall at one time the rules saying that only 461 heads could be used. Did this relate to the saloon car class or was it for something else. So even though I cannot see anything in the rulebook I just want to make double sure that I can use any factory V8 head, I know that I know that I can use world heads but I just have heaps of the closed chamber factory heads, so why not use them ?

You can use any factory casting, all those Fuelly type heads are OK to use and can be hand ported as much as you like as long as you dont start altering the ports with weld or epoxy (repairs OK) You cannot use a BowTie head. Brendon

was 10.1 when i was measuring motors ..also i see from some posts and or in for sale colume one quite recently saying they running angle plug corvette heads .that is a big no no same as alloy water pumps .fat ign systems etc the list goes on .a while back there was a saloon running basactly a 305 which is a low down tork motor he was a front runner but never told any one what it was ..lots of 383 coversions ,,,,,,burp

So whats the thoughts on bringing the sport out of the dark ages and allowing Nissan, toyota, bmw, mercedes etc etc quad cam engines? Yes with rules to suit, ie weight, cams, ignition, yada yada. At present I can't run a nissan vh45 as its 4 valves per cylinder, create engine's why cant a number of these be used, ls engines etc. I don't see a nissan or toyota v8 threatening a 500hp chev or ford but it will run all season long and cost less.

LS1..1 HP per inch..standard...( standard ol school chevy 350 290hp) LS2 400 horses std....and so it goes up the chain.. cam changes real easy, Edelbrock have an Msd/dirt track carby manifold and timing set up for these...seems a no brainer... but cant be used all aluminium....std head flows as good as fuelie heads with simple porting...

Its a shame the engine rules haven't kept pace with the times, Im a fan of the multi cam engines {although the three valve ford 4.6 v8 is honestly a piece of crap} especially in the six cylinder range - a worked ba twin cam can keep pace with a 355 chev with a little work done to the heads! - proven by Ryan Marsden. video is on youtube somewhere
the 3 litre limit on multi cam engines is a massive restriction on engines that are already being hit with a big weight penalty. if you want the best power to weight ratio you are pretty much forced to go to the cube limit of 360.5ci... any less and your carrying more weight for your engine size than the guy next to you.
360 = 1086kg = 3 kg per cubic inch 244 = 940kg = 3.85kg per cubic inch - nearly an extra kg per cube, doesnt seem like much but it all adds up in this class now.
for shyts and gigs I checked out a 13b rotary on this scale - was thinking of Shane down south who could sometimes keep the v8s at bay in a over weight car with a rotary in it.
1.3 litres = 79ci, lowest on the scale is 100ci = 757kg = 7.57kg per ci..... thats a massive 4 kg extra per cube than a v8 at the limit...
