The NZ Speedway Awards are the premier event of the off-season, and nominations are now open for the 2015 ceremony. They are a celebration of speedway’s success from throughout the country, and there are three ways you can get involved to make this year the best ever. Nominate: We want a record number of nominations to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the awards, so there’s a $500 ferry voucher up for grabs. To be in the draw simply nominate someone in any of the categories and you’re in to win. Sponsor: There are 43 categories, and by sponsoring a trophy you are automatically in the draw to become the naming rights sponsor for the entire event. Wellington Family Speedway won the draw last year, it could be you or your business in 2015. We’d like to make this draw on April 1 so the winner gets maximum exposure for their investment. Contact the SNZ Office if you are interested. Come Along: Tickets will be on sale soon, with the awards dinner on Saturday 13 June at the all-new Shed 6 Events Centre on the Wellington waterfront. You can nominate deserving competitors, tracks and individuals here:- www.speedway.co.nz/awardsCheers, Tim

Hi there is there a award for most diserving sponser to a speedway club/clubs Have a look, but doesn't appear to be. In fact, there's nothing that really acknowledges sponsors. Going through the list there really are a few categories that could be culled or rotated on a bi-annual basis, although that would impact on attendee numbers. What category could I nominate posthumously Rex Pollock, having in my lifetime of speedway contributed selflessly over 40 years as a sponsor, supporter ...
2015 New Zealand Speedway Awards
The 2015 New Zealand Speedway Awards will be a celebration of the 2014/15 season. The awards encompass all aspects of speedway, and celebrate high achievement both on and off the track.
This year the awards will be held at the brand new Shed 6 events centre on the Wellington waterfront on Saturday June 13. This is a bigger venue that’s able to accommodate up to 500 guests, and to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the awards we’re going all out to make it the best one yet.
Now is the time to get your nominations in for the 40+ award categories, and to help you along we’ve got a $500 inter-island ferry voucher up for grabs. Send in a nomination and you’re in the draw for this fantastic prize courtesy of Cook Strait Crossings.
Most of the awards are similar to last year, with a change to the nomination criteria in one category and one new award. They are as follows:
Rookie of the Year: All drivers having their debut season in one of the 12 national classes are now eligible, even if they’ve raced Youth or Regional classes in the past.
New Category - Innovation of the Year: This is a way to recognise those in the speedway community who are stretching the envelope. It could be a technical advancement, a promotional idea or anything new that continues to move the sport forward.
Nominations close on Wednesday April 22, and all supporting information must be submitted to Speedway NZ by that date.

Rex Pollock would be an ideal nomination for the "Contribution to Speedway" category A couple of issues there. This is in no way a slight on the huge contribution Mr Pollock gave to Bay Of Plenty Speedway over many many years, but this would be for a contribution at national level and for the last (current) season only would it not ? I would've have thought it more appropriate that BOP Speedway Club honour Mr Pollock for the many years of great service.

I think any teams meeting you visit anywhere in the country owes a debt of gratitude to Rex Pollock.

Most nominations are only relevant to a specific track.Few have contributed to the sport nationwide to the benefit of the spectator base and competitors.
The point raised is our failure as a sport (perhaps) to go out of our way to applaud and encourage sponsors.

Just finalising the details on the meal etc, so that we can get ticket sales underway. Start time will be around 7pm. Incidentally the Best Sponsor to Speedway category was a part of the awards in the 1990's, but was ended before my time. Some of the old hands may know why that was. Nominations are rolling in nicely and will receive another boost now the March newsletter is out with more details. www.speedway.co.nz/pdf/Directors%20Meetings/SNZ%20Update%20-%20March%202015.pdf
