I don't think people should get too hung up on the "Best of the Best" moniker. It's a bit like a "Champion of Champions" meeting. It's marketing puff, a bit like your local takeaway joint promising the "Tastiest Burger in the World". Chances are there is a tastier burger somewhere else on the planet. Or like State of Origin "State against State, Mate against Mate". Are they really mates!? It's a catchy phrase that broadly describes the intent of the meeting. Nothing more, nothing less. yeah it's just a name like the "World 240's

well from my perspective it was a well run meeting . the field was full the stands were full the clubrooms were full and the track was primo to race on and it stood up to countless laps of punishment. i didn't here the commentary in the pits or the music so wont comment . but its is what it is,all the people i spoke to enjoyed the meeting and in a couple of weeks theres nothing to watch or compete in . i didn't make last years show due to a k o stand down but im looking forward to next season already . percey .. i didn't get called to the ref or get protested for the spin on 62p so i guess there was no legal dramas with my actions in the last heat . as for not getting my paint scratched well thats the game isnt it , ive done my fair share scratching paint and if some one wants to have a crack so be it at the end of the day it is stockcar racing but if i'm trying to win a champ meeting i'm not exactly going to start smashing cars all over the place. i know people want to see us smashing and crashing but sometimes it just doesn't go that way . feel free to give me bagging for my post but just use ya real name lol

From my perspective, the meeting was well run, good to start early, and it was completed shortly after 10:30. It was a large crowd, bigger than I have seen there, but I have been to 4 of 5 a season over the last few seasons. Traffic out took over one hour to clear, maybe longer. but that allowed you to talk to and enjoy the hospitality after the meeting. The music was over loud, but it was not on the FM channel. Neither was Mintie and some of the infield commentary, which should have been. The FM channel also needs more power as it was dropping out of the receivers. I will be looking forward to the next speedfest.

The good Started on time ( you could have set your watch on it ) Take note Waikaraka. 6.00 start No time wasting between races. Good crash crew Track was great all night.( what ever they did please don't change the formula. Huntly has had some awe full tracks in previous years.) ( once skinny complained about it and they banned him from coming back it was awefull) Great racing particularly the saloon classes Commentary was loud enough you could hear it. Great music. Good parking. Short ques for thew food Weather good not cold. Great crowd without flags and horns
The bad Nothing really ( i had a great night)
The Ugly
Waikaraka does not have the south island cars or most of the lower north island cars this weekend that speedfest had. Bugger Six shooters at Waikaraka on Saturday.

Off subject, but I was a commentator at Gizzy when Skinny came to race for ( could be wrong but a NI title, in his saloon days ) and in my opinion, and his the track was too wet when they let the cars loose. Skinny crashed out, and was his usual emotional self. He came to the cometry box, and voiced his opinion, which I agreed with and then, Myles Richardson stomped up the stairs to the box, and suggested if Skinny didn't like the track, then he could F off and don't come back. Unfortunately Mr Richardson took me by surprise, and I wasn't quick enuf to turn off the microphone, so the rant got broadcasted to the public.
Good times, if not great times. Sorry for hijacking.

i dont know how but we managed to hit the main rd from the carpark in about 8mins straight after the fireworks aswell.. friends were meeting us at bombay, left at the same time but arrived 30mins later... we mustve got a lucky gap in the traffic fallout..
thats one thing you cannot fix when everyone wants to bail at the same time

C,mon Penman , listen to the people who were actually there . I commented on my experiences from last season , if you care to read it again.. Yet others thought it was a great meeting. However, even though you weren't there, you have chosen to take a negative stance and then post a pointed comment about "Best of the Rest". Can't see the point m'self unless you were there to make your own judgement call.

C'mon highrevz, don't start bagging a meeting you weren't at based on hearsay and second-hand information. he is correct though..if was my home track I would of left way earlier than we did.........trekked all way up from palmy so had to watch 90% of the meeting.maybe is was end of season and guys didn't want to much off season repairs.......was more hitting in the saloon cars than the contact classes.. Good enough for me Penman , sounds no different to last year and im darn pleased I didn't waste my time and money. Best of the Best / No Rees 1nz in Superstocks or stockcars .. Theres two classes that never had the best of the best , and the two classes I would normally go to watch....

The fields were of a quality befitting such an event held at the end of a season.

Lol, Rees are good entertainment , you just never know what they are going pull out of the hat .... ...
We all know that there was some very good driver present , it was more a case of who wasn't there considering we were told [ more to be entered to the list ] a couple of weeks before the event .....

It has always been "Best of the best", right back to start when i did the Superstock class, the "best of the best" are always invited, but can't always make it for different reasons, i thought it was a great meeting....with good music

Rather than "waste your time and money", you're prepared to waste your time and breath highlighting (by proxy) the apparent negatives of a meeting you have admitted you chose not to attend. Except, according to this post now, it's now not the meeting that was at fault as such, it's the name "Best of the Best", right? You DO realise how meeting marketing and promotion works right? Based on your rather negative (and unfair) theory, any NZ title isn't a true national title unless EVERY vehicle in that class attends...

Get your hand off it Penman , Best of The Best it said .. When asked earlier about the lack of 123 nz in the contact classes , the reply was [ more coming and to be added to the list ] They must be still coming .. lol.
In past years we saw 123 nz in a majority of the top classes attend speedfest , my comments were that the event had lost its gloss in comparison to previous years prior .. Yes a good meeting and yes some pretty good competitors , but of the same calibre as previous years NO. Get the picture..

It's not quite up there with David Lange's "I can smell the uranium on it [your breath] as you lean towards me!", to American evangelist Jerry Falwell as part of the Oxford Union debate in 1985.....but it's an admirable effort highrevz.

This is where macgor's can't win. One day the people say they don't like macgor's because there's too much #### on here, and the next day those very same people will argue because they can't get a say when a thread (like this one) gets locked. Macgor's has lasted so long BECAUSE it is moderated, and while you're never going to be able to please everybody all of the time, that moderating IS the secret to its longevity and why it has survived when other sites with discussion board have failed.
Thread locked.
