At the risk of another slagging the reason I left so early was purely down to the volume and amount of music.
The racing was ok , I enjoyed the wingless sprintcars. Purely the music aspect ruined the meeting for me along with the uninformative commentating as a result of the music being played so much? Cripes most of the time we couldn't even communicate with each other.
And I'm not saying there shouldn't be any music, the balance was missing. Imagine if that sound system had been used to inform.
Did I think the meeting was well run in all other aspects? yes I do. Even the hotdogs were good. The track was ok , bit dusty but to be expected.
I would never have stayed for the full near 5 hours anyway but my intention had been to leave after the 3rd Heat of the Superstocks. 2 hours to get home and dogs to attend to. I'm not one for long meetings anyway.
I guess I have just opened myself up for another bout of abuse. But remember my experience is mine , my opinion is mine. It's worth no more no less than the next person.

The commentary during the racing is neither here nor there as I don't expect to hear much of it over the noise of the cars. It's between the racing the info is wanted.

EXACTLY,. Not like up here where we get to hear who is up in Bill,s private box and what is on the menu.Or Mr Standring explaining to the first time people at the springs how great the track is and how the cars work which is really good for the first time but does get a bit thin after meeting 12 or so .He does do a very good job though with his interviews etc
So you were not blessed with getting nifty for fifty or dirty for thirty or even live for twenty five

Likely for a similar reasons Steve Williams has an H on his car and lives north of Auckland?
Number of reasons.
* I generally travel extensively as able and in the past have my season calendar out early. Baypark didn't know who it's promotion team was going to be let alone have a calendar out until very late in the piece. * Like to support the smaller tracks financially and with my car. * Kihikihi is a club and track I have constantly supported and contracted to in the past, and appreciated, been made welcome at. * Contracting to KK reduced the need to get clearances (which is a pain). * BP is very much a horse power, dollar track, both of which I am in short supply off. Plus I struggle with the variable track conditions (it's an age thing). * Kihikihi provides mostly larger fields (24 or so last meeting I raced at) and more competitive skill based racing for saloons. * Regardless of KK being my contracted track I still support, promote, attend BP meetings (on the track or as a spectator). Hopefully will be able to do the same next season.
Personally not comfortable with the SNZ competitor contracting requirements and the 'clearance rulz' are nuts to the extreme.
Gordon, get yourself an FM headset to control volumes, keep your ears warm and the dust out!

All good after the fact Murray but a/ didn't know they had FM, b/ didn't know they were doing the music thing , c/ not sure they were doing commentary while the music was playing anyway. Don't think there is any point in letting this topic dominate again. There is another meeting this weekend to look forward to.

Don't feel too bad Gordon , last year I walked out halfway through the meeting . Felt the meeting was totally boring and had lost its gloss from previous years . Didn't bother going this year for that reason .. Talked to plenty of people the made the trek this year and also walked out early , vowing to flag it next year.
Maybe next year change the naming to [ Speedfest Best of the Rest ]

make no mistake about it highrevz there was a great turnout of quality competitors. First time I had made the trek to 'speedfest' and the entry was what attracted me. There was no great mass exodus before I left , just a trickle.
There is no doubt Huntly did well to attract the fields and the crowd at this time of year.

I don't think people should get too hung up on the "Best of the Best" moniker.
It's a bit like a "Champion of Champions" meeting. It's marketing puff, a bit like your local takeaway joint promising the "Tastiest Burger in the World". Chances are there is a tastier burger somewhere else on the planet. Or like State of Origin "State against State, Mate against Mate". Are they really mates!?
It's a catchy phrase that broadly describes the intent of the meeting. Nothing more, nothing less.

Why don`t Huntly simply call it Speedfest? Or drop Best of the Best and maybe call it something along the lines of Speedfest Speedway Spectacular? After all it is Speedway and it was somewhat Spectacular.
