i like the idea of some sort of loyalty card. if SNZ could get together with a ticket agency and have that shared among all tracks then those that travel to a number of tracks would certainly benefit from being a regular petrolhead rather than a Fireworks night supporter. There are other sports that have seasons passes so why not speedway ? I would think most tracks run a season pass, Gisborne does and you save 2 meetings by buying it at the start of the season. Which is really cool until rain out #3 for the season and you work out not only have you paid for a meeting that's not happening, but you had to pre pay for that meeting months in advance. I don't think that there are that many tracks who sell season passes tbh, cause they are basically more trouble than they are worth.

Instead of a loyalty card we show our club membership card. That would encourage people to join their local club as a social member and get discounts when we travel. I was always of the understanding that if you belong to a club that belonged to the Incorporated society as so many do ,that a membership of any particular club gave you permission as a social member to that clubs facilities in regards to club rooms, and any discounts available . Social membership in many clubs dont give much in return and to a family just another added cost to there restricted budget like -season passes ..

Ramjam has hit the nail on the head re rain outs. Sure having season passes help out the die hard fans, but the reality is the die hard fans are going to go anyway. If clubs are going to take a hit somewhere, they are far better off to take the hit offering special discounts to new fans through advertising, promos etc (which die hard fans still get the benefit of anyway). Then there is the potential of a new group of die hards. Season passes in other sports you usually get a season seat too and they have the resources to throw in a lot more extras to make it worth stumping up the cash in a lump sum. In speedway there's generally not enough reason, for enough people, to spend the cash up front to justify the discounts. The amount of events most speedway clubs run also means the price of a season pass for a speedway track would be more than most other sports. Example: Woodford Glen Season Ticket - $300, Wellington Phoenix Season Ticket - $189 (no rain outs). So it's a lot upfront. I'm sure there's probably tracks it works for, but i'd take a guess that their attendance figures are strong anyway so there's just more die hard fans to support it. If ticket prices were looked at in huge detail, most should really be $19. Give that good old retail shopping feeling that it's far cheaper than $20..

Well sad HadleyMotorsport. Jumping ticket prices from $15-$20 or $20-$25 is a 25% increase. Imagine if this was done in any other sport..attendance would drop away.

If you are going to charge a rather high gate charge , just make sure you are putting on a decent meeting so the public don't feel short changed ..If you don't theres a high chance that some will never come back.. Great meetings with plenty of drawcards ,people don't mind paying to see . But there are too many clubs that charge top dollar for boring / half a.se club nites....

I've often thought a loyalty scheme could be worth considering. Over the years I've known people that support their local track most every meeting but miss out when the big shows come to town. A simple punch card to allow some kind of discount would be a good thing. Just a thought.

This is an interesting topic and I hope it's one that doesn't get sidetracked. According to the Waikaraka Park website fans can expect price increases this year. www.waikarakafamilyspeedway.co.nz/tickets.htm $25 for Adults and $60 for a family. I will add that when this was brought up on their Facebook page the response was that prices weren't yet decided for the upcoming season. I think if you check the Waikaraka website in a day or two you will find the prices will be corrected back to $20 & $50.

A punch card would do the trick. Every (to be agreed) meeting free to make a worthwhile discount could be popular. Barry B

Gis allows you to use the pass at any stage as a multi ticket. Like my mate and I use his as 2 adults in one night. Next meet his two adult kids and him use it(3 adults) So pay for twelve and use 14.

Palmy falls into this category for us. We use to alternate between Meeanee and Palmy, almost week about, but to be honest even though Palmy fields were for the most part much better than average, we always felt somewhat disappointed with the night when we left. This coupled with the cost to get in was more than enough to stop us from going. We only went 2 or 3 times last year. The facilities are good and the racing is no doubt good for the drivers, but the place in my opinion is over priced and over rated from a spectators point of view. I sincerely hope the new promoters don't apply the same formular at Meeanee, even $20 will likely kill off what little we already get.

This is so true. I love good speedway. Yes Waikaraka has improved. Although over the years i have encouraged so many friends to come along to watch my chosen spectator sport only to have meetings start about 30 minutes late and a crap show put on. Guess what next time you ask those same people if they would like to come again they just always have something else organised for the night. When families are involved it is an expensive night once you include food ect. To be totally honest entry price should be based on the quality of thew night. Fireworks, demolition derby, national championships, national grand pix , teams champs, dirt cup. price should be $50.00 where it is a two day meeting first night should be $20.00 Championship eg north island and the like of Burger King meetings other than above should be $30.00 Note this would be limited to $25.00 for Auckland Modified , super saloon, super stock, stock car classes saloon. Any other good night should be $15.00 Nothing much nights $10.00 Just my thoughts

wow ,some people are pretty hard to please. I am no expert that's for sure but I am a regular at PN and get to the other lower north island tracks at least once a season as well (admittedly for big meetings). I suppose the opinions on your night out will vary depending on what experience you want to have. If you want to get splinters in your backside and showered in chunks of clay all night then go to Meeanee. if you don't then go to PN or Wellington where you can chose to do that or go up in to the stands and watch in relative comfort - its your choice. If you don't want the new promotion to give you a decent track, better lighting, toilets you don't have to get a pass-out to get to and good fields of competitors maybe you need to tell them to take themselves elsewhere 'cause the bay is happy as they are. a 20.00 entry fee wont kill Meeanee but continued experiences like the first night of the NZ Superstocks 13/14 season certainly will

i see they have jacked the prices for palmy teams.........i suspect the stream prices will follow. i am not sure why the need for the increase, its not like they can guarantee the level of epicness each year might produce. making the event alcohol free would would help. i would pay extra not to be harassed by drunken morons!

I'm told it's only the grandstand price that has increased and it's the first price increase in 4 years.
