Can someone inform me as to why we have these in New Zealand Speedway in 2015?
The more I think about it the more I struggle to justify their existence.

You havent given the slightest hint of an alternative .. Winning a titles especially those mentioned are very much rewards for participating in the sport ,.

Well the island titles attract drivers and spectators(in the nth Island at least) but the Grand Prix has not been all that popular for years. The Grand Prix needs a update to become a 3/4 season long points chase at selected meetings. Do something different with it.

Makes for a bigger selection of bragging rights (nothing wrong with that). GP is good for some paybacks after the NZ title (if its that way around) and another chance to put your car against others from throughout NZ. North and South are good for those that may not beable to afford the time or budget for an interisland trip, and race against teams from other tracks.

Maybe the GP could become a different format of racing to spice it up or make interest in it? Dunno what but someone may have a clever idea

Personally, I am happy with any meeting that brings together 40 plus Superstocks together from different tracks, whatever the format. I think some people are spending too much time analysing things instead of just enjoying the whole experience and accept that Superstock racing today is somewhat different to days gone by. Yes it would be interesting to see a different format maybe but no matter what format, there will always be up to 26 cars on track for 15 laps per race several times in one night and thats what it is all about.

I reckon leave as is. Could even start early and have 3 qualifying heats then finals etc. I know six races is a big ask but it'd be a cracking night racing and cuts down travel cost for drivers/time off work etc

Usually brings a better than average crowd , makes the hosting track some money , IT IS ALWAYS ABOUT THE MONEY .

Well, tradition is part of the answer. It almost seems to be a swear word these days but having a few marquee titles that have a history and chance to win something that has been around for decades is worth the effort I would have thought. The other option is series or titles that tracks come up with themselves that fold after a few seasons or are only open to a select few. These current titles are open to anyone that wants to chance their arm.
The GP does need an overhaul to differentiate it from being a minor version of the NZ title. I would imagine it could run a different format or be open for sponsorship and the drawcard is cold hard cash - a bit like the Modified Dirt Cup which manages to draw a big field each year.
An Island or GP Title win always looks good on the CV as opposed to perhaps a win in the Big Save Furniture 30 lapper!

This topic pops up every year it seems when it looks like numbers will be low at SNZ events.
Reality is that most mod drivers rate the Dirt Cup above both NZGP and Island titles. 2nd in importance to NZ title. This is why the field for the Dirt Cup is normally far superior to the ones assembled for the NZGP and Island titles. Harder to win and more competitive field. This was my argument when Speedway Mag came up with their "greatest drivers" list for the class. Seems wrong to ignore DC results when ranking drivers in my opinion although I accept the argument it is only ever held at Waikaraka. In this day and age not sure home advantage counts for much to be honest but accept that others might have a different opinion.
Same can be said for Superstocks. I would imagine the drivers rate the World 240 title over both the NZGP and Island titles in that class as well for similar reasons to the mods. World 240 results should also count when ranking Superstock drivers IMHO.
On how to fix the NZGP issue? No idea. With the mods we are trying to tie it in with the Dirt Cup so at least guys can compete in both events on back to back weekends like we do when we run NZ title up here. With an ounce of luck that should mean we get a decent field for the GP. Is a risk for the Dirt Cup if we lose some cars from the meeting but a risk we think best to take to encourage guys to head up. Time will tell on how successful this is I suppose.
Only sure fire way to generate interest from drivers for the NZGP in all classes is to offer big money for prizemoney so guys would be mad to miss it but this idea is highly unlikely to ever eventuate! Ha!!

18th Season as Meeanee Track Announcer Turn the North Island and South Island events into qualifiers for the NZ title. Watch them turn up then!!!! Both events would massively grow in stature. A gap of 2 months between Island and NZ titles
This of course would work best with classes that have plenty of competitors in both Islands.

Points coming from feature wins and maybe getting placings at local/regional championships? Just a rough idea

Good idea, but then they would have to be before the NZ's.

You could just take the previous winners whether it be in the current season or the season prior, depending on the timing of the nz's

So 2020 runs after NZ's but 2021 runs before, as an example.
