From Ruapuna Speedway's Facebook page - Meeting 3 - 3 December
Christchurch’s Lionel Green and Shayne Breach claimed the South Island Sidecar Championship at the Racecourse Hotel & Motorlodge - Ruapuna Speedway on Saturday evening, with Invercargill's Josh Wells / Regan Feck second and Scott Ayto/Dylan Currie (Invercargill) third.
Green and Breach finished the qualifying heats of the Hiab & Specialised Services sponsored event as the top points scorers with 15 points, dropping just a point when finishing second to Invercargill’s Luke Thwaites/Neville Chambers in heat 9. Thwaites and Chambers along with Cory Lang and passenger Luke Elliot, finished their heats with 14 points, with Ayto/Carnie fourth on points after a countback to earn a direct place in the Final.
Bradley Sharp/Lance Jefcoate also finished level with Ayto/Carnie but had to enter the five combination repechage, with the winner earning a spot in the final. Sharp/Jefcoate lead that race for for the first two laps before Wells/Feck passed on the inside of the Town Bend to go on to take the chequered flag from Sharp/Jefcoate with local’s Mike Warwood/Stefon Burrow in third place.
The Final saw Green/Breach hold a narrow lead from the Wells/Feck and Ayton/Carnie combination. Wells/Feck pressed the leaders for the next lap but the drifted a little wide on the next lap allowing Green/Breach to open-up a sizable lead which Wells/Feck could not close.
Jeremy Webb took out the Ryan Stone Tribute Feature for the Three Quarter Midgetcar class. Webb who had started at the back of the field for the unique 17 lap race slowly picked off his rivals over the opening lap as Sean Brown and Rodney Brown, both from Greymouth set the pace at the front of the field.
On lap seven Webb passed Daniel McKinlay to claim fourth place and on the next lap was in third spot when passing Kate Warren with Brown looking to be in control of the race when leading by almost two seconds. Webb moved into second spot when accounting for Thompson with six laps to run. Webb slowly cut in to Brown’s lead but the field closed right up in lap 13 when Gareth Nixon spun out forced a caution. On the re-start Webb quickly took the lead with Brown holding on to second place from Thompson, the fast finishing Liam McCoubrey and Warren.
Daryl Wright had a good evening in the Six Shooter class winning the opening heat, then following Kris Jemmett home in next heat before claiming the win in the Feature ahead of Jason Manson and Jemmett.
Montana Jamieson and Nelson’s Jayeden Bradley were again the pick of the drivers in the Quarter Midgetcar section each claiming a win and a second in the heats before Jamieson winning the Final after Bradley was forced to retire with mechanical issues early in the race with Dylan Forsey and Jack Nairn claim the minor placing. Kane Jemmett created a piece of history when becoming the fourth generation of the family to race at the track.
