Seen on the Western Springs Facebook page I've never been to Western Springs and didnt know Dan, but anyone who does 62 years at a speedway track is a true legend.
"We are so sad to announce to you all that Dan Neal passed away last night. Due to declining health, Dan hung up his Speedway New Zealand shirt last month after a whopping 62 years of coming to Western Springs.
We all have our fond memories of Dan over the years with the many roles he had at the track. Of late Dan was our race schedule controller and he put many hours into making sure the schedule ran smoothly on race night. He was a wealth of information and always had a ready smile and he will be sadly missed by all of us.

You have to admire anyone who gives a lifetime of service to a sport he is passionate about.
Despite going to Western Springs for 34 years I never met Dan. When they put him on the microphone on his final night he looked a bit overwhelmed but appeared to be quite the character!
Saddened to hear of his passing, especially so soon after he concluded his duties at Western Springs Speedway.
