Once again the weather played havoc for Ruapuna's opening round of the war of the wings. The track was pretty lumpy from the start of the opening race due to a couple of days of very heavy rain. There was plenty of action from the 20 plus cars through the heats,B main, and the final.Jamie Duff took out the win in the 25 lap final this guy is great to watch in these big races especially in lapped traffic. How ever his lead in the final few laps of this race was coming under pressure from Connor Rangi this young Nelson driver charged through from the middle of the pack to get right on the back of Duff until an incident in the prison bend took him out.The old veteran campaigner Ray Bourne took out 2nd place and another good drive from Luke Keegan in 3rd place.Great nights racing from all classes but the Sprintcars War of the Wings show really wooed the crowd.Down side when drivers line up for indian file restarts and are apparently demmed to be out of line they are ordered to the infield.Maybe to the rear of the field but to the infield really???

I'm thinking SNZ officials may have applied wrong penalty. Surely run the race, and give drivers the opportunity to protest. At least one of those calls was very debatable. If SNZ got it wrong there are two drivers who were both likely to finish in the top five receive no points and no dollars. Those drivers should send SNZ a bill...but I do realise that the board are 'deposits only'.
