Various people in the speedway community have been trying to tell me that Willie Kay is a good appointment. I'm not of that belief. I don't believe Willie has an adequate understanding of what's required to optimally promote the sport in 2019. He's also not exactly known for his people skills.
Whilst today's facebook post may not be anything to do with Willie, we're not off to a great start. If clubs like Kihikihi can post entry lists. If Cromwell can post a Sprintcar list. If Waikaraka Park can post a Saloon entry list, surely a private promotion like Baypark can give us some clue as to who is racing? If you have sufficient information to make a statement like "cars from all around the country..." why withhold who these drivers are from the paying public? Especially when your track has an extensive history of being non-communicative.
As others above have insinuated, why take the punt on Baypark when you know what you're going to get at Kihikihi?
I'm also perplexed by the 7pm start. They started at 6:30pm last season and it makes sense to do so again this Saturday. It might be a less than 3 hour show but there is a certain All Blacks game this Saturday night. If ever there was a night where fans would be happy with an early finish, this would be it!!

The All-Blacks game this Saturday is a 9.00pm kick off so can't see any track except maybe Kihikihi finishing by then, unless the plan is to show it at the tracks. As it's just a semi-final less reason to work around it as opposed to the Final.

You have never been a competitor, car owner or promoter so not sure what makes you qualified to even make the statement. Here’s an idea Matthew why not see all the hard work he has done and give the new team a chance. I find it amusing you are happy to take a seasons pass off the owner for one track but wants to bag the other track he owns and just appointed someone, but don’t let me point that out. I really hope that people do give BayPark a chance to find their feet after a period of less than adequate shows for the local competitors and the Bay of Plenty fan base.

At this stage I don't have an issue with the Wille appointment. My problem, as it has always been, the lack of info. You don't put statements out like " bumper fields" and " in some classes drivers from all over the country" without some quantifying of such statement, otherwise it lacks credibility. We all know punters have been let down at this venue previously, and if I was a new promoter with bumper fields and known visitors I would be letting everyone know. After all their job is to promote. The 7pm start is interesting. Previous team had issues getting meetings finsihed prior to curfew. On a positive the gate price is better than I expected. Will let them get a meeting or two under their belt before I shell out my bucks. Here's hoping for a positive report Sunday morning.

I need to correct a piece of information posted above. I did not "take" a season pass off a track, being Western Springs Speedway. I was given a pass with the understanding I was continuing in last seasons social media role. Unbeknown to some of the staff at SPL, you have moved in a different direction in relation to the social media role. I respect that decision and look forward to the new team building on what was achieved last season. As many on here will be aware I was elected to the SNZ Promotions team at last years AGM which entitles me to entry at any track in the country. Having a season pass is nice to have but is of no material value to me.
In any case having a season pass doesn't alter what I say. I understand professionalism and what it means to wear a different hat. When I was involved with the social media role I was representing Western Springs Speedway. When I'm writing for NZDTR magazine I'm an independent columnist. Thankfully last season at Western Springs (after we got the track sorted following the first two shows) was one of the best, if not the best I've seen. The promotion was duly rewarded at the SNZ awards as a result an thus plenty of positivism came from me. However, had the track not been up to standard (for instance) I would have written as such in NZDTR magazine.
If anyone is interested in Aaron's credentials there is plenty of copy online relating to business endeavors and speedway car ownership. I'll let people google and they can make their own assessment.
My credentials are a BCom & Graduate Diploma in Commerce from University of Auckland, majoring in Accounting and Marketing. I'm a Chartered Accountant and was selected by my then accounting firm to complete a secondment in Toronto, Canada. I worked my way up to Manager level in CA firms and have worked with literally hundreds of different businesses in just about every industry you can think of. I've now moved to the commercial sector where I work for a NZ based, international digital print company specialising in premium photo books & albums. I sit on our company board meetings and am heavily involved in the strategic direction of our company. I also have an intimate understanding of speedway having traveled internationally, attended 20 of our 23 SNZ tracks and multiple SNZ AGM. I'm a 4 time winner at the SNZ awards in various media related categories and have been a nominated finalist on around 10 occasions.
I too hope for the best at Baypark and would like nothing more to be proved wrong and see Willie Kay take the track to where it should be.

I will make the trip from Auckland. I expect bumper fields etc. If the promotion doesnt deliver I may not travel as often. I have high hopes for the new promotion, it cant be any worse surely? Have to say the 7:00pm start has me puzzled going by previous experiences.

With that amount of educated experiences Percy you should be standing in the next election for Parliament .. It is good to see some friendly banter for a change ,and i think the Old Grey Ghost Willie deserves a short interlude to get the ball up and rolling ....

No need to google mr drevers business ventures i think everyone one who has been around speedway knows what he got up to but I won’t post what he did It'd be an even longer novel craige. The bottom line is, when a little club-run operation like Kihikihi, which has been hauled over the coals on macgors in the past itself, can get out a concise driver's list for their opening meeting, and a fully professional and extremely experienced promotions team can offer nothing other than words of self-praise as to what they've arranged for patrons, you have to ask yourself. The biggest problem with Baypark, at least the source of most complaints on here over the years, has been a lack of entry lists and information. If it was me the first thing I'd be doing for this weekend was getting some such information out there. Maybe not complete, but some sort of indication, just to show that the new promotion is a step up on the past and not just a continuation of years of disappointment. 2k's effort has got me leaning more towards a trip to the King Country now, knowing that they have 26 Superstocks and some other pretty good fields in support, than a visit to what everybody knows is my favourite track having no idea what I might encounter. Good luck to all of the tracks opening this weekend. May the weather be kind to you all. . Barry B

Judgement day is at the end of the season. Let the new team show us what they can do. Its their show far too early to complain. After the last meeting we will know if they need to stand on the podium and pat themselves on the back or behave like politicians and bury their heads in the sand to hide. PS they need some Modified meetings just saying.
