It is with a very heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of our beautiful mum Leona. Many will no mum as the lady who was always one of the first through the gate, chair and thermos at the ready, to enjoy another night of Speedway fun. She met many great people who become permanent friends through her love of the sport, and a sport that saw Ken Delwyn and myself become heavily involved throughout our lives. Mum loved Speedway so much, she would even have a huge smile on her face sitting in the dust cloud watching the first practice of the season at Baypark, or seeing the first racecar on a trailer as she headed to yet another meeting. She did hundreds of thousands of kilometres going to meetings, and has been to thousands of them in her lifetime. She was a true lover of Speedway in NZ.
We will celebrate her life in the Speedway lounge at Baypark on Friday at 1pm. And we extend a warm welcome to all her Speedway friends who are able to attend, to see her take her own chequered flag. In our eyes, she was also the best mum ever, with a kind and beautiful soul.

Malcolm Sines Condolences Mal, Leona sure was passionate about her speedway and a lovely lovely lady who will remembered by many. Wish we could have those years all over again, actually perhaps she is and is now in her speedway heaven. Have fun Leona.

Oh Mal. That's the sort of news we know will come one day, but at the same time we hope it never does. Speedway has lost some big names this year, big supporters, and your mum is one of the biggest. RIP Leona, and condolences to the rest of the family.
