When was the last time anyone took a standard muffler off a donor car? Can you remember what it looked like? I ask because the rulebook simply states the muffler must be offset, donor type. On the web rules, it then shows a picture of a Superstock or Sprintcar flowmaster style muffler, with the pipes offset at both ends. I hardly think they'd let us use one of those And after being told to change my muffler for the third time in three seasons, its getting a bit tiresome. One of the bigger local muffler shops doesnt even stock mufflers like they are telling us to use. Anyone else had similar issues?

If you get a chance check out my old car (64s) which is now the 4p(i think) which will be run by Ben Small?
I put that muffler on before the start of last season and had no trouble with it. the best about that one is the size Nice and small, and by me i reckon it still gave the car the same amount of power as a straight pipe did.
I got the muffler from a muffler place in New Plymouth.
there will be 4 other car this season with the same muffler running them

ive had the same thing. at the NIs in wangaz in 05/06 got told to change it cause it wasnt offset and it was straight threw. we then read in the rule book that it has to be off a donor car. so we went out and had a look at the 3 datsuns out the back and they were all straight threw mufflers. we then got a pisture of it drawn and sent to us by SNZ and it was offset. the rule book said donor which are straight threw and SNZ showed us it had to be offset. The new rule book came out that year aswell.

The muffler must be cross flow and the in and out pipe must be as per rule book spec! Cheers Loopy

I know how you feel Basil, had the same trouble down south. I have a offset muffler, goes in one side and out the middle, but they did not pass that. I went around muffler shops all day a few weeks ago and it is impossible to get a completely offset muffler with the 38 diameter pipe, they are all around 58 diameter. How do other guys do it, help out your fellow racers lads

Funny you say that because cars in Palmerston North got away going in middle and out one side. So it should be off set like the picture in rule book. Do that then your fine do it offset one end out the middle the other then you may pass then maybe later get told to change to rule book picture.

if you go to a exhaust shop & tell them what you need they can get them for you but they are not that cheap $80 to $130 dollars the most expensive being a sports flow (out of a chase exhaust book), so yes you can buy them.

Mine didn't. 4th different muffler on the car since I've had it, after changing it each time was told it was ok, and then told to change again next season. Not really a problem, it's just completely crazy that's all.
