Very sad to hear. Growing up from about 6-11 years old dad and myself spent plenty of nights in john and paddles manurewa workshop working on the 15a super saloon: I’ve still got the crew shirt from when I was about 7. RIP John.

Sad news indeed, favorite of mine and many others back in the day with the firebird and before. I think his last Super Saloon went on to win 1nz in the hands of Geoff James. John also had a dabble in Modifieds and ran the Meremere high bank speedway for a while.

John certainly always knew where the loud pedal was, and was always the sort of driver who made it difficult to take your eyes off him whenever he was on track. That Gordge chassis he got late in his career was a real rocket ship. RIP John.
