It is with much sadness we advise that Keith Turner passed away in Wellington Hospital earlier today. A former New Zealand Stockcar champion (1978-79) and former Wanganui Warrior, Keith was always a popular competitor and friend. He returned to Classic Stockcar racing in a replica of his championship car last season, and was a welcome addition to the classic ranks. Sincere condolences to Keith’s wife Toni, to his family, and to his many friends in both the speedway and vintage car communities. Keith will be very sadly missed.

This was Keith’s “new” car the night it made its debut at Oceanview. I’m told there might have been a tear shed when the Roadrunner logo was applied to the body, the last piece of signwriting. The Valiant station wagon in the background is the tow wagon Keith used for many years. The second image was taken on the infield the same night by Sticky O’Hagan, and became a Dirt Track Magazine poster. Keith was really chuffed when I gave him some extra copies just before the first meeting of this season at Oceanview. Lastly, I did a pit walk before the Sunday meeting of our 50th Birthday meeting in October. Included in the Speedway: The Inside Dirt video is an interview with Keith who was sitting the meeting out, having just had a pacemaker installed! With so many of our Speedway heroes leaving us, it’s really important to get their reminiscences captured on video.

Crumbs.....that is sad news Tony.
I remember interviewing him for a NZ Superstock Champs programme article back in 2007. I had not met him before & bowled up to his home where he could not have been more accommodating and friendly......a really nice guy.
Not good news :-(.
