What is going on with the promotion at WS, or the lack there of as the case may be. Its now October, we would normally be attending practice about now. I understand the facility has some repairs to be carried out and not likely to run until new year, but we dont even know what that looks like?
International sprint cars usually held in NOV/DEC, is this just scratched? Run at alternative venue? or re-scheduled?
International midgets usually run over holiday period, same story? A lot of people plan xmas holidays around these events.
The total disregard to the community that supports this venue is very disappointing and they are doing their best to kill the rich history associated with the springs.
Your job is to promote the venue/classes/drivers I would have thought. And frankly you are failing miserably at this.
I hope they are communicating better with the teams/drivers than they are to the public/fans.

Lack of information whats happening is rather disconcerting you have to really search around be able find anything. far i've been able see there looks to be International Midget car series those dates have yet to be confirmed. appear as like palm North, Baypark and Waikaraka park have been penciled in towards end of December and early January. no idea as to springs track. had said in fb post 27th September would be posting news in few days was nigh on 2 weeks ago.
I have noticed on waikaraka park calendar 2023-24 John Webster night been brought forward November 18th.

Also, the NI Midget Title was allocated to Western Springs last season (eventually run at Waikaraka Park) but will take place at Baypark this coming season

There has been some talk on restoration work being taken out on the Ponsonby rugby clubrooms One of the major concerns is the embankment ,so i guess if racing does occur it maybe well into 2024 To be fair the promotion probably does not know the councils plans and cant plan or adjust accordingly ...

News via Facebook Page
📢 PRACTICE and SEASON UPDATE 📢 This Sunday at 1pm Western Springs will be hosting a practice session at Waikaraka Speedway for all Auckland registered competitors that are ready for some early season laps. After waiting for five weeks for an answer, Auckland Council Environmental Monitoring have come back today and declined our application to run an additional meeting in the month of March. The Unitary plan for the stadium allows for only one meeting in March, but on the basis that due to stadium unavailability we are only able to run five meetings this season as opposed to the 12 allowed for under the same Unitary plan, coupled with the fact that we were only able to run five meetings last season, we thought we may have been shown some leniency, but it seems not at this stage. So we can now release our current calendar which is very much subject to change; 📍 November 18 Western Springs at Waikaraka, John Webster Meeting 📍 December 16 Western Springs at Waikaraka, Outlaw Sprintcar Masters 📍 February 11 Western Springs, North Island Sprintcar Champs 📍 February 16 Western Springs, NZ Sprintcar Champs Night One 📍 February 17 Western Springs, NZ Sprintcar Champs Finals 📍 March 16 Western Springs, Sprintcar 50 Lap Springs Royal 📍 March 23 Western Springs, Outlaw Sprintcar Masters Series, Legends Night (date under appeal) As you can see it is limited, but still some very exciting events on the calendar, with plenty more good stuff to come. Stay tuned for further updates, event details and new announcements. We appreciate your patience during these very frustrating times, hang in there, as in the words of the great Bruce Springsteen, we will look for “BETTER DAYS SHINING THROUGH”

Have just heard from WS promotion after the few meetings in February March,NZ Sprintcar Championship etc, council has said Speedway is finished at Western Springs, cost too much money to bring back up to scratch again and the council is not going to renew the Speedway lease after this season, of course everything will be officially announced in due course.

I wonder if it will cost too much to bring the place up to scratch for the Ponsonby Rugby Club as well, or any future cricket ventures or concerts etc.

Source? For some context, here is Auckland Council's key bullet points from their controversial budget 2023 / 2024 budget, it would seem their priorities are fairly clear after mass infrastructure failure and a natural disaster: -Spending cuts -A total rates increase of 7.7 per cent per year for the average value residential property -An increase in debt -The sale of some assets to save on interest payments www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/plans-projects-policies-reports-bylaws/our-plans-strategies/budget-plans/Pages/annual-budget-2023-2024.aspx#:~:text=Auckland%20Council's%20Governing%20Body%20has,deliver%20the%20infrastructure%20Aucklanders%20need. The current lease holders / promotions team have had a nightmare run on their lease, hard to imagine how it could get any worse. Running Springs meetings at Waikaraka was the beginning of a slippery slope that gives the council an easy out. 'Just go race there' they will say. And some will, and many will not.

Well there comes a time when competitors have had enough ,and make a move it seems for better prospects ,and that is shown on those who have registered for Baypark so far this up and coming season Little will be left at there home track which now seems unfortunate in moving a head and fixing the damage occurred . Sad in the face for many speedway fans that this has happened ,even with a track across town ,which has not capitalized on future prospects .

Writings always been on the wall far as Western Springs futures concerned. Council never given dam about the place, now gives them excuse been looking for by closing the place down. if this had been souly Rugby venue, could bet your bottom Dollar wouldnt of happened. Done everything in their resources kept stadium going seeing it's Speedway simply couldnt care about it one little bit. This unfortunately seem demise of Open Wheel racing in Auckland.
Bruce Robertson was saying yesterday on Doing in the dirt program Surface wise it's fine. facilities around the stadium is absolute mess. Council hasnt touched it since was damaged in January. Hence the reason for late start of late January into February.
Been absolute farce over the years by cutting meetings back then using excuse. those have wanted see back of the springs, have now got there way. Those have fought keep it going. seems really sad end to sport which had entertained the masses over the past 94 years.

It is very sad but tbh, every time I go to Baypark now, I just see how much better the racing is. I miss the atmosphere and history of the springs but haven’t enjoyed it as much with the new promotion…

Tighter track usually makes for better racing. Track at Baypark was very good last night though.

I Enjoyed lastnight at Baypark ,we sit and make our own atmosphere amongst friends ,even before racing over a early meal ,the night rolls on far better in the corporate box ,with a few drinks . But there are those that look like a cow with a long face regardless and spoil it for themselves ,sit there like knombs in a garden of cactus ....
