Best of luck to Peter Hunnibell and the team.
Peter Hunnibell Racing is one step closer to the day with final touches on the car driving the Covich Motorsport #65NZ in America 🇺🇸
USA Day 3 & 4 ✅
Days 3 & 4 were very productive. We had the rest of the team arrive and had all hands on deck to help with everything from cleaning, sorting the trailer, plumbing & wiring, tyres and seat fitment.
We fired the car at approx. 7pm on Day 4 before applying the finishing touches of decals and heading home for some much deserved rest.
Big thanks to the team who have worked hard to get everything together, and to Esslinger Engineering who have provided us with a home base for the past 4 days before we start our journey.

Great to see him get some seat time state side.
Unfortunately he has his work cut out running a slinger, would have been good to see him in a more competitive package.

Sure is. Thought Peter did real well. Considering a new chassis and Tyre package to get use too.
Esslinger was always going to be the engine choice. Obviously.

Suprising but there is still handful of racers still have Esslinger powerplants was 5 on opening night. with Jake Andretti and Chance Crum. both made the feature with Andretti finishing 11th and Crum 16th. comes down to getting best set ups. given the dominating Engine package Still TRDS with 15. Stanton sx-11 with 9. Esslinger is still competitive package on smaller tracks.

Peter Hunnibell just had 2 starts tonight Heat 1 finished 9th. had sum tough competiton with Kyle Larson and Justin Grant in same heat.
B main or semi he finished 10th. where top 4 transfer. not sure why he only got 2 starts. was 37th in points where top 16 from time trial heat race and prelim night feature. determines the grids. with Larson top points scorer top 16 get inverted.

The Slingers simply don't have what it takes to be competitive enough to even look like winning a race.

I had the chance to talk with Brian Axup at BSL earlier this year and it sounds like that particular team marches to their own beat with regards to tune up.

Total Rubbish if anyone thinks PB Form over the states due to Esslinger powerplant. Having to adapt new car, different tracks well as format also brand new. well as Tyre package of Hoosiers compared to American Racing. well as over 30 strong professional drivers who do this week in and week out. if you look at the field of motors still at least 2 to 3 Esslingers still make the A Main features. like mentioned in my previous post Jake Andreotti whose made start of each feature. would of imagine if MP or Brad Mosen over there also Esslinger would of got through.

I think Peter is doing real well considering. Any seat time learning in the US is good for a driver.

When you've seen them on a dyno and seen Toyotas and SR11s on a dyno, it will become a lot more apparent than it is to you now. There's an element of truth to the adage that "the engine isn't as important on dirt", however when 30 drivers capable of winning turn up at the same race then all of a sudden all of the small differences become fundamental differences. You don't see it in NZ when there are two guys who should win and a couple more who might win.

I have been impressed to see SR 11S from Logan Seavey have been such force in midget car racing we have so long been used seeing Toyoyta TRDS winning everything have done with KK Motorsports past 10 years. That down to engine or Chassis set ups. especially on smaller tight tracks. 2024 season will be intriguing looking forward how T Mez goes Ford Stealth Engler. past season have we witnesssed more dominant showing than Abacus racing winning USAC Championship 280 points. including 8 of those being feature wins. its still good see are few Esslingers can still make feature lineup. gather nowadays its still gonna be Mopars and Toyota powered engines.
