As per the title - I thi k the early record was Stratford last time they hosted the title, untill HB and Meeanee Speedway had 244.
Heard a whisper Stratford is at 230 - will they break the record?
Heard 8 groups of 30 😳
Going to be a full pits and an awesome meeting

8 Groups means only 3 go through from each. This is not going to be a championship, it is going to be a raffle. Use your brains Stratford and make it a 3 day meeting. Start by getting down to 4 groups with the top 6 going to the finals. Maybe too late now but it would of been a fairer meeting to find a genuine NZ 1.

A club just cannot make that decision, and do it. For many years every title was limited to one day. SNZ changed that rule and Rotorua staged the first two [consecutive] night meeting in 1985. I know some clubs have applied to stage the NZ Superstock title over 3 days, but were unsuccessful with their application. But I hear what you're saying. Barry B

Yes i think 3 days needs to happen it is just too hard on the drivers one misshap or half spin and its all over and you would be lucky to then even make the repocharge
Entry cap would be good too
I do think some kind of entry qualification would work out although the calibre of some of the local championships would be drasticly different as it 70 entries vs 10 ect and alot of the place getters may also not enter
I do think that any previous place getter 1 2 3 NZ GP NI SI should get an auto entry,
Its a hard call to make but something needs to happen, track conditions after 230 stockcars running through it has become a huge issue aswell

Even if the event could be changed to three days (which it can't), logistically that would be a nightmare at this point in time. Drivers and crews will have accommodation booked already. Staff and volunteers will have time booked off work. The Speedway New Zealand office is closed until January 10th. Spectators will have holidays, travel and accommodation booked. This list could be endless so I will stop but the point is, it's two days to Christmas, then New Years soon after and then we're less than two weeks away from the event. To try and change an event to that extent only a few weeks out, well, you would have to be mad. Either way, you are still going to have 30 finalists and the top 30 will still rise to the top no matter the format.

Not sure where that number has surfaced from but there are 214 entries.

230-240 entries. 8 groups is the only format where the 2 repercharge 6 places works. And leaves you with two great nights of stockcar racing. I don't feel like it's a problem people are making out it is at all. The cream still rose to the top. With that many cars there was always to be some surprises but by and large most of who you would expect made the finals field bar a couple of groups that were carnage aplenty. And finals night was epic. First and only time finals night has lived up to it with full grids and a lot of action in each tier! 240 is the prefect number of cars for this title with this current format. From 240 plus cars needing 9 groups is a bridge to far. 240 is the absolute limit but my God you get the best racing. Just enjoy what we got. Brains need to be thinking now of what to do if 270 stockcars enter. As the format has reached its limit.

Meeanee ran that format with more cars. It works. You end up with a action packed quilfying night fighting for 3 spots. Then two epic repochargers. Followed by full fields in tier 1 2 and 3. Three was two groups best pairs. One race final plus consolations.

Seriously? so you are suggesting that only 3 cars qualify but those 3 are pretty much the picks from the groups anyway. That is rubbish. Soo many good cars, drivers, will miss out due to luck. I.E puncture, spin etc. I would suggest one bad race and you are done, but it would be more like a 3rd of a bad race and you are done!

How many drivers have you seen quilfy for a finals field that have had a dnf? As the flat Tyre rule pretty means a puncture is a dnf anyway. I can tell you 1. Peter bengston. There will be others. I've also seen Peter Rees get spun turn one and win the race of a repurcharge where only the winner goes though. A car will come out with 1nz and they will deserve it. Luck would of played a part it always does. Talk to Dave Evans about winning titles and luck. The cream even if you can't see it happening will rise to the top and there will always be hard luck stories. Like Regan Penn won two races and a flat tyre put him into the repercharge. He's in a quilfying spot right up until the last concer and lost it. The guy who got it when on to become 1nz! Hou need to change your mindset and start looking at this differently because it will be epic. Stockcars are just better in stratford as well

Anyone know what the deal is with Practice for the Nz title at Stratford?
With the largest contingent of South Island cars travelling North I’m sure there will be plenty looking for a chance to have a skid before the big meeting.
Understand it’s still part of the hosting rights to host a practice, as HB did 👍🏻

They only need 7g roups so they do in fact have 3 extra races they don't need. Not sure why your complaining and worried. 8 groups is the prefect amount for the 2 groups repocharge.
