Not ideal. I went the detour route at Xmas time to avoid SH1 traffic and the multiple 60 and 80kph zone's effectively the that whole way. Google suggested it was about 15 mins slower, but thought with all the traffic it might be close to the same.
It will certainly be alot slower with all the highway traffic detoured that way.

Will mean a bit of a detour for a few teams on their way to Palmy by the sounds of it. Hopefully re-opened on the return journey though.

There were actually a few errors in the original story, days and dates that didn't match etc. They have now supposedly been updated online, but here is a day-by-day plan of what is supposed to be happening.
