Does anyone know the history of this car? Built by Eddie Arthur approx 82-83, was used as a block car for the Allstars, ran a ford V8, truck box and a commercial type diff. Its hard to find written history as the contracted number isn't known, and the number 2 was shared be a few cars. The bonnet may help as it is unchanged to this day. I'd love to know the history of this car and who all the owners were, as according to rumour it ran every season until I took it off the track two seasons ago for a rebuild, which is ongoing. I'll post more pictures of how it looked when it last raced later

Awsome photo, this is the car just before I bought it. I'm going to return it to it's original Allstars colours and run it with the historic as well.

I'm trying to get photo's of the Allstars from the 82-86 period to get the paintwork right, also a Ford V8 and bits to return it to it's original 'A' grade condition. If I can build it to the current weight rules I'll run it as a superstock, if not just as a historic.

Im not 100% sure as I was very young round these days.
But is that the same car used in maybe the 1987 season & raced at Palmy Teams
Run under 28a Driver: Ian Berry??? I think
Pallmall, you may be able 2 know this answer.
Regards
PS Good Luck in your quest Paul

Cheers for that, I remember a 28a car that had an unusual bonnet, it could be it. At least I have another name to track down. The early history of the car is very murky, as there are two possible starts for it. It may have been built in the very early 80's down Stratford way, or built approx 85 out of the remains of the earlier car with a new chassis etc. Eddie Arthur had the original car but it is not clear how damaged the original car was and wether it was scrapped or not, but a new chassis was built to the same design. I hope to find out.

Im sure Barry Brown or one of these other speedway veterans of the glory days will know what im talking about.
Definatly 28a and im still sure it was Ian Berry.
This is abit off track but still half relevant I do remember that is was the same year the Rebels team had Malaquin in the old Mercer machine Lyall Rumney and Hobbsy in flat chassis Kevin Free was in the Rebels
Pretty sure 24a Dutchy was in the allstars that year & Wilbur Chiles was a 'Jester' Wildcat
These are some names I remember from the same champs.
If someone has a teams champs programme from that year, then the car will be in there under allstars standing out like dogs balls.
It had to be either 1986 or 1987 no more no less.
I know that I was 4 at the time and can remember and that someone abit older will know & hopefully someone can clarify weither this is the same car as yours Paul.
Id be keen to find out if its the same car.
Cheers

Cheers Well I'm sure a bit older ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D granted, but only used to spectate irregularly during that '82-'86 era. Didn't start taking pics etc until the 88/89 season, although I have a few taken from the stands snapped a little before that time. I seem to remember a green 28A, Ian Berry does ring a bell, although I'm not totally convinced this is the car. Didn't Rossco Willets have a similar car about the same time perhaps? I didn't attend any of the Teams Champs prior to 1989 so cannot assist at all in that department.

This is a photo of 28A from the 1987 Palmy Teams program. I don't think this is the car you are looking for, but then again the front is similar. The Auckland Team was; 24A Dutchy 29A Craig Collins 45A Roscoe 81A Noel Hawthorne 28A Ian Berry None of those cars are anything like. Roscoe had a spacey at this time. Nothing looking like it in 1986 or 1989 either, I haven't got an 1988 program. Anyway, I will keep searching the files.

Oh well, I found some colour ones of 28A, might as well stick them up even if it isn't "the" car. The black car is Jamie Bryants ex 61a car, its now 17w.

Thanks for the effort, guys. This has a very distinctive chassis, a flat chassis but with the rear rails going under the diff, two crosses at the back of the rollcage and heavy pipe (52mm) in an arc from the front bumper to the roll cage. It looks like a short wheel base version of the famous Proctor flat chassis. I have a pair of the original 13" front wheels. When it gets light out i'll take some photo's of it and post them. All I need is one confirmed sighting and date to be able to track its history. It'll need a good detective to figure this one out as a lot of people drove the car but didn't own it. The only comfirmed owner was Eddie Arthur, with possible Pop Anderson.
