with Mini Sprints now no longer racing in the South Island will this be the last NZ Championship?? I understand that unless a class races in both Islands they become regional...

wouldnt think so as there are a couple down here last year 2 cars went up and 1 got 2nz. so in my opinion they should carry on with the nz champs ad gp.

So one Island could get together and organize a boycott any given class, and have it demoted to regional? The Stockcar class had a number of official SNZ titles prior to the class taking off in the SI, and now Saloons too. Despite having the current 2NZ, I don't believe that class actually races down South?

This very question was asked at Ruapuna on Saturday night by the track announcer - I know of 2 mini-sprints that still survive, however both have been inactive this season - one was listed for ages on Trademe and simply dissappeared! The other I have been informed will NOT be running this season..... and yes even at their spiritual home in the South the class has vanished from the scene! So ..... no mini-sprints have been active in the South Island in the 2008/09 season to date - pretty sure that the last time either of the mini-sprints ran it was as invitation at Westport for the innaugeral Modifedsprint Invasion.....
Aint it funny how the two classes that USED to race together have now become dominant in each island as seperate classes.....
As for having a national title.....well if it hasnt got a Countrywide representation its hardly National!
And the suggestion of just pluging a "C" on the car - well surely you would have to be registered to that track, and as such be expected (by contractual agreement these days) to race at your registered track would you not???

Sdemon I think if you register their you only have todo a meeting or two and this can be done at seasons end. I am drafting an email to send around to try and get the MiniSprints to perhaps make a guest appearence at the latter end of the season? It is my understanding that we may have one C entry for the NZ's but am waiting on confirmation. It would be a loss if we don't have them as a National Class, It really would be a loss.

Do Modified Sprints race anywhere but Ruapuna? What are numbers like for that class. It seems that with the rapid growth of minisprints in the NI, nationally they would appear to outnumber mod sprints. Would it not make sense to drop one of them and make one truly national class. How hard would it be to convert a mod to a mini?

I don't think Cookie will have it all his own way this time around. In particular 55h Daniel Thomas has been very impressive but there are others who could challenge on the night. I believe the class has more depth to it than previous years and this title might just throw up a couple of surprises.

Do Modified Sprints race anywhere but Ruapuna? ? Yes, but they only contract to Ruapuna. Would it not make sense to drop one of them and make one truly national class. How hard would it be to convert a mod to a mini? No, Modified sprints are way better to watch than mini sprints. If anything they should do the reverse.

with Mini Sprints now no longer racing in the South Island will this be the last NZ Championship?? I understand that unless a class races in both Islands they become regional... From the rule book: A National class may become a Regional class, any member may request the change by writing to the SNZ CEO. If the class is no longer suitable as a National class, after consultation with all tracks who contract the class, the Directors may notify that the class freturns to regional status.

I agree with mod46c, Modified Sprints are arguably the second fastest class in NZ speedway. I know that the drivers racing at Ruapuna would not want to change to a slower Minisprint. A few christchurch minisprint drivers have changed to a Modified sprint and have liked the change. Often you find die hard minisprint fans are so because they know and understand car engines, Modified Sprint fans know and understand bike engines. I personally think that both classes have their pros and cons and that we shouldnt get rid of either. There seems to be enough minispints in the North Island to keep it national.

Personally I miss going to the south island to contest the Nzs and hope in the future we can get back down there to do it or just to race at other south island tracks.

No, it depends on how many tracks they run at on a regular basis and how many cars are registered (see rule G6-3-2).
