Does the Super Saloon rep frequent this board ? Would love to know how many/ who will be racing. Hopefully next season the information on the BP web will be more forthcoming. Wasnt one of the criteria from SNZ for holding a NZ title that the track applying for a title have a working website ?

Earlier posts suggest that "bayparkchick" is the super saloon rep. She used to post lots but all of a sudden stopped. Funny that.
Nevs numbers have been somewhat inflated in the past an that has prompted my show me an entry list. I will be there regardless but don't want people turning up expecting 35 cars. I have sent an email to the CEO of SNZ to see what happens between allocation and hosting of a SNZ title. Is it Snz to promote or the club/promotion to promote it.
I looked on the SNZ site, macgors, Bop assoc site, BP site (yeah rite) and phoned the track for entries. Nothing on all sites and the response from the track was the drivers that turn up will be the entries!
Others suggest there are up to 6 Sth Island cars, including Ray Stuart in the potent Nissan. Why is this not promoted?

Wasnt one of the criteria from SNZ for holding a NZ title that the track applying for a title have a working website ? Yes, but for those applying from the next Conference onwards, so that does not apply to the current season or the next - as those titles have already been allocated also. The rule also only applies to New Zealand Championships, of which the GP isn't one anyway. I think the term of reference used was "fully operatonal", which will mean it has to be used, not just existing. I'm sure many non-local fans have just given up on Baypark as a potential venue to visit, I know I have. This was one meeting I was to cover for NZDTR, arranged with WK in June last year at Conference, but following zero contact from said promotion I'll be elsewhere this weekend. To be honest though, I'd probably have had to of declined anyway, as I had a longer standing arrangment with the Wellington club (to commentate) for the NZ Stockcars, but back in June we didn't know they were going to be on the same weekend. And sonic33, it's certainly not SNZ's job to promote these events but the local "promoter" (and I use the term loosely) for sure. Will be interesting to here Tim's explanation. SNZ however is carrying previews to all TAB meetings on their website, and possibly a few others as well, but the Super Saloon GP isn't one of those. Would be interesting if WK ever had a TAB meeting, as nobody would know who to bet on......... Those that turn up will be the entries. Classic!

The tragedy is though, most fans will have made up their minds where they're going well before Friday. Many macgorians will already be watching racing on Friday actually, and it'll be a long long way away from Baypark. Both Wellington and Palmerston North are very good at letting people know both what's on and who is attending, and they will reap the benefits of that this weekend. If even SNZ is now capable of running a more transparent operaton, surely it's about time Baypark did as well. Maybe that why SNZ and WK don't appear to be getting along that well anymore.....

And thi is what i was trying to say end of last season with the South pacific Super Saloons, there was NO build up or profiling of this pre event. Most of my speedway now envolves travelling to race meets that i feel are worth attending and with out info or build up how can i decide which ones to attend. Phil and Shane did an excellent job of this and changed my mind about attending the recent NZ supers in Cromwell and am glad I did. ITS NOT hard to build up a race meeting as long as facts are used, there ARE a lot of upset speedway fans and drivers with Baypark at the moment because of this very reason and that is FACT. Then there are the competitors who work hard to get their cars race ready AGAIN, take time off work (running out of annual leave!!), increase the visa limit , drive through the night to get to an event only to have to race in front of a small crowd. It is a bit dissapointing not knowing who else will be there. It is disheartening not having the hype and atmosphere but surely that is something we can make ourselves. The great thing about championships is that they are a one off special meeting, not just a run of the mill race night. You know where it will be a year in advance, you build up to it, it is like going home for Xmas and catching up with everyone you haven't seen for 12 months. Off site scruitineering such as Cromwell did adds to the "this is not just another meeting" feeling. Souvineers of the event give you something to remember it by. The pre postings on Macgors adds to the hype. This goes for Island Championships and GP's as well. Last year when Shane won the GP one of the first things he said was "looks like we will be going to Tauranga next year". I have been looking forward to it for 12 months now so hopefully some of you will turn up and support it. If not for the promotion then for the drivers making the effort to attend. Karen

There will be at least one spectator in the stadium - I'm going to be at Baypark for the first time this season.
Seeing Super Saloons at Baypark is one of the best sights in speedway and this is an event not to be missed. 27/28 cars is pretty good considering the NZ Champs were held so far away. I haven't even considered going to the opening of the Kihikihi Speedbowl.
I can't wait to get down to Baypark this weekend and I am confident that Willie will put on a quality show.
