Kia ora I was on the corner where the first contact occured and it did not make sense to me for someone of Steve Hampton's character and skill to follow someone like Roydon into a corner as it first looked. Especially considering Steve would have been aware of the year he had off recovering.
So it made sense when I read the following quote from tonights local Daily Post newspaper "Mr Hampton said he had intended to tail Mr Collingwood to cause him to spin his car but instead had hit the back of Mr Colingwood's car..."
Watching the video this certainly seems to be the case. It looks like Steve is setting up to spin Roydon and probably would have if Roydon had taken his usual line into the corner instead of turning slightly right.I guess that is racing and drivers have to make split second decisions. Not sure how to do the daily Post link thing sorry but I am sure someone out there does. Nice photo too supplied by you know Hue.

It would have been a huge huge spin. The speed was huge. To attack that hard surely can't be a miss judged spin! Steve did get a hit from behind that seemed to unsettle the car, and maybe that was the mis judgement.
Come to think of it there was ateams race in the 90's that involved Steve Burley and possibly two Stratford drivers. Contact was amde with the back of Burleys car entering turn three that sent him head on into the wall.
Wish another super stock teams event cud be held.
IMHO Rotorua cud hold a teams meet. 8 x superstocks, 8 X stockcars and 4x streetstock teams in a one off meeting. Wud love that. Vegas a great track for contact classes.
Geese starting to wander my thoughts

Kia ora David, Steve was knocked out and unconscious for quite a while. Sore bruising. Short answer, yes. Green flags and green lights.

The first hit was something i did not expect, and collingwood's head on impact makes a very sickening crash sound. It's great to hear that he is going to be ok, same with Hampton
