For the benefit of those who have yet to meet, greet and watch Ray Stewart race ... this competitor is the curry in the stewSeen here entering the track at the recent NZ Super Saloon Champs in Cromwell. Don't be fooled by his youthful looks and friendly demeanor (Ray has the race suit on)! This racer makes even Paul Carter look like a boy scout on the track! GO RAY!

We should make him an honorary North Islander then he could race next weekend at Gizzy.

Agree Richard.
I remember talking to Ray in Gizzy at the nz's suggesting that Gizzy might work for his less hp engine as hp is not crutial on the gizzy track. What I meant was more the set of the cars to the track. Ray suggested in no uncertain terms he had as much HP as the others out there.
Not sure if he HP sauce or not, but will be great to hear the Nissan around BP.
Also heard the Sth Island guys are coming up as a thanx for the Nth Island car numbers that went south for the nz's

- Ray certainly develops the same horse power (700+) as the V8's,
but possibly is very reliant on being able to maintain high revs.
- Definetly a very distinctive and incredible sound from the twin turbos.
- Very much on the pace with Dean Waddel in Cromwell, drivey track!
Likely take the high road!

Should be able to maintain the revs as the place is big and wide. Just needs to pick his place on the track. Shudn't have to worry bout traffic till the final. (sorry Nutz)

Unless he's changed his set up dramatically and not mentioned it on his website. Ray's bored and stroked FJ20 only runs 1 turbo.

I see Ray has made it into town earlier than expected. Followed the 34T Cruiser and Trailer along turret road into 15th ave around 6pm this evening. Looking fowards to see how the torsion bar rear suits Baypark. As much as I love watching the local boys going hard. I'd love seeing a 4 cylinder turbo taking the flag on saturday night's feature.

Just spoke to Ray and he is 3 miles off the coast of whangamata deep sea fishing. Pretty sure the current South Island Champ is going to be in that place that sees the sun first next weekend!

I think you'll find alot of the V8's don't even make 700 hp, I've heard that Orchard, Donovan and Mcdonald are only in the low 600's and are still very competitive.

No reason the torsions should'nt go well at Baypark, all the Skinny Built cars are torsions and seem to handle Baypark well enough...

Low 600hp range is Tui add material for the above mentioned. More likely is that the Flynn's, Steve and Grant, are in the mid to high 600hp range with their 350ci chevs.

All the fast cars at baypark are torsion rear as far as i have seen. They suit the track, they suit the ballsie outwide, faster cornering speed type set up required to get around the track fast

I'd love to see a 20-25 lap race of the baypark supers with the fastest 8 or so of the fastest baypark saloons (lesser hp, better handling set up) I think there'd be some very suprised faces at the end and possibly a bit of egg on faces. If I recall correctly, at the last meeting, the fastest saloon did a 17.5 while the fastest super did a 17.2
