G'day, this thread is in no way intended to be connected to any current threads or any particular track, please!!
I have always wondered about the relationship between the clubs and promoters, who is responsible for what, where are the grey areas, does the promoter put money in, does the club put money in, how is this divided etc. What particular skillset should a promoter bring to the table..... If anyone has a sensible reply outlining the realationship i would love to hear it. Thanks Z

Zitadel
Every promoter/club relationship will be different. It really depends on what a track is looking for a what the promoter can offer. A promoter will normally lease out the facilities and inject money into the track, bring on their sponsors and do most or all of the promotions. Often the track is left to run the meeting and kinda become caretakers of the track.
To the other extent where the track will bring someone on board to get sponsors to cover the promotion and cost of meetings and they get a take of the profit. Often the more people they get through the gate the more money they earn themselves. You would need to make it your full time job as there is a LOT of work involved. A business skill set and passion for the sport and classes within the club I would say is a must.
Hope this helps

Thanks Hew for the answer. Do the promo and the club set the calandar together, or does one dictate to the other?

The promoter and club representative will go to the annual SNZ meeting and bid for the championships together. If a club has a championship then the promoter must honour it. As for the rest of the meetings once again it depends on the arrangement but generally the promoter will set the calendar.

As for the rest of the meetings once again it depends on the arrangement but generally the promoter will set the calendar. HEW11 I live in Auckland and one of our tracks does things a little different. They aren't actually allowed a private promoter, so the president asks around a few of his mates to help him out. At first his mate denied being the promoter. . . . until the country watched him doing the promoting on national television. His mate really had no respect for rules and regulations and figured that since it wasn't his money it was okay to give a whole lot off it away in fines. The president wasn,t that happy about this, but mates are mates and luckily it wasn't their money. By now the new promoter is bulletproof (he does after all resemble jeepers), and unlike the other tracks he knows he doesn't need any championship meetings in 2010 to enrich his club so why bother going to conference to try and win some, he does afterall have jalopy racing so why would you need the NZ Supersaloon Title. We used to have 20 something average meetings and the promoter said "no way", i'll give you 12 "MEGA" meetings instead. Its too easy they said we'll pack the place and make thousands, we love this man, for he has turned Waikaraka Park around . . . . . . . he's come to realise his work here is done and his help is needed somewhere else, boy o boy I cant wait "Welcome to the 2009 Waikato Super Jalopy Championship"

Differences between promotors and clubs
SCB have a document that is an agreement to sign each year between the board and the track
The agreemnt asks for a stamp from the track that stamp indicates wether its club run or not ie wellington speedway club or bay park track promotor
what ever the club decide to do after that is internal club politics
some tracks like waikapaka park mite use frank as the boss which might make it look to some as a promotor
