why havent you posted up how palmy ran late last night!!!.. and they only had around 46 cars!!!.. They officially had 178 competitors last night. Ran slowly by Palmy's standards, had 22 races and finished by 11pm Here we go again comparing apples with oranges, Did they have 160 odd stockcars doing 18 heats, 3 each, and all fighting for a NZ title ?

If this is such a regular problem when running big events at TM why not plan for it ans START earlier? And just like everybody else thats bagging Te Marua on this thread you can't provide a solution, The suggestion to start earlier was a possible SOLUTION, idiot! Lee

Just pointing out if he's going to spout figures, that he might like to get the full story. Funny, but one of the podium getters also thought the meeting took too long on qualifying night. So the committee are aware of it, despite the protestations of the locals on here. Not a lot further is going to come of this thread, point has been made and taken on board by some, not others. So maybe it's time to lock it?

On the Friday night I didn't hear one group being called up to the dummy grid and I was in the pits all night. The drivers were having to try and listen to the commentary to find out what group was out there racing.
When championships are held you expect delays of some sort. With the racing being so fierce there are bound to be repairs that need to be made to the track and extra time to get the cars off the infield.
As for taking young children. Yes it is a family speedway. If you have young children give them a nap in the arvo like we used to with our kids. Carry them in from the car straight to bed - don't worry about the sheets for one or two nights.
Go to Manfield or whatever and you will spend all day to see half as many races.

wiseowl stated he spoke to the powers about somethings and I was just pointing out yes as in his son Interesting assumption. Why are TPTB mentioned not Wellington Club? Cheers Lee

Lee The thread is about why can't Te Marua run a full program and be finished by 10pm "like the other tracks" with the same start times, so tell me genius, how could they have done 160 cars, 3 races each, 18 races in 3 hours like most on here expect them to be able to do, and why lock the thread Basil, we havent seen any evidence on how it compares to other NZ Stockcar title events recently, don't let people bag Te Marua when this could be an event problem, not solely a Wgtn problem

well said mickeymouse
teams champs in palmy friday nite 12 race's sumtimes dont finish tell around 11pm add 6 more on there and that would make it after 12am so why not add 6 more teams race's in and c if they can finish before 1030pm that would make 18 race's just like welly did on friday nite

Also the Stratford running of the NZ Stockcar Champs in 2008 was voted the 'Best National Event' at the Cardwell NZ Speedway Awards, which would indicate it likely finished before midnight.

And just like everybody else thats bagging Te Marua on this thread you can't provide a solution.... Not quite true but good point nonetheless. So what are some solutions. Heres one to get the ball rolling. Te Maura lost half an hour fixing a broken post. In comparison last night PN took only 5 minutes to repair the same problem. One systems is old and very slow to fix, the other modern and fast to repair. In fact it was almost an entertaining side show in itself watching those PN boys efficiently rocket into gear and they had it sorted in no time. I have a small successful business close to the track and would be happy to contribute financially to get the ball rolling on a solution for this one. Some biased local supporters seem over sensitive and sadly more focused on trampling down potentially valid criticism, rather than looking at the complaint objectively and which could in fact be beneficial for the club.

All the wrkers up there are volunteer's and spend most of the day up there 2 make the track surface good 4 the drivers. and if u have a successful business and wont to contribute financially thn go talk 2 kevin win and see what you guys can sort out im sure he will be happy to talk.

At the end of the day or night in this case 20 bucks for 5 hours action was exceptional value This is where people need to be careful. I'm not specifically referring just to Te Marua here, as I've heard many similar comments out of other venues as well, in the past, when a meeting runs late. It was actually $20 for 18 races, not $20 for 5 hours action. If the gap between each race had of been 4 minutes less, it would have still been $20 for 18 races, but "4 hours action" as opposed to 5 hours. Would the fans have missed out on 1 hours action for their $20? No, of course not, they'd have still seen 18 races, but got home 1 hour earlier. This is just using Te Marua's 18 race schhedule as an example, but as I say, I've heard the "blah blah hours action for X amount of dollars" before, but it's actually the racing the fans pay to see, not the gaps between races. The night did run longer than Stratty for the same amount of cars last year, but with plenty of action neither night felt, to me anyway, as long as it actually was. Championships in several classes are proving not to be that family friendly. Starting earlier does not help alot, as it's still just as many hours sitting around, maybe even more time in the hot sun if one started racing at 6pm for example. Clubs just need to be as vigilant and efficient as they can.......

As for the powers to be yes we know it is your son.. so wiseowl.. if you are going to bag one track why not them all.. as did you bring up how hawkes bay ran late since you was there.. or any other meeting you have attened.. plus for 20 bucks i would say it was all value and gave drivers time to fix there cars instead of been rushed. as Wellington do a great job on and off the track and when away we dont have what palmerston has and never will.. Isnt it amazing how personal some people can be... THE POWERS AT BE as I mentioned in a previous post happen to be TeMarua members..... No one else !!!!! I did state in my original posting how passionate Welly people are .. But certain facts need to be stated so as to improve and upgrade the overall package that is supplied to patrons.. and that doesn't just have to be Te Marua !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also stated that the RACING provided was awesome..... But that the late finishes are unacceptable... not just to me, but MANY people who were there !! Examples would be The Sprintcar Meeting , Teams Champs, & then the NZ Stockcars !!! This Board is about having meaningful discussions to try & improve Speedways lot...Personal attacks are pointless & achieve nothing but negativity Many Speedway people read this Board . Drivers, officials, Members of Clubs or SNZ Members, along with just casual followers..... so intellient ,realistic discussion on this board can influence what happens to Speedway around NZ... ... and if that happens, great, we will all benefit Cheers Wiseowl

Paid $25 for Te Maura Saturday night. The programs had all sold out. The sparse run down grandstand seating all taken. Paid $25 for PN Sunday night. Sat in the modern new grandstand. Bigger crowd. Better facilities. Are you suggesting I should approach the promoter to see if its acceptable to offer sponsorship? If thats the case I'm wondering if I will also need to be prepared to wipe his bottom for him at the same time?

Hey Phil B your dam right the safety fence at Te Marua is in need of a revamp and i can assure you its the next big job on the agenda and a palmy style fence is what Ive proposed but as you all know it takes a fair bit of money and resources to undertake the bigger projects at club owned and run tracks and when asked not alot of hands go up. its always left to the same dedicated few that spend all their spare time slaving away sometimes at their expense too so Phil if you have got some ideas on how you would like your money spent give me a call at work and IL take it to our next committee meeting (by the way thats tomorrow night) Cheers Martin Halcrow

I believe there are lessons to be learned from the wellington experience. Having said that I did not expect to be out of the place before 2 in the morning. I think SPANZ and SNZ need to have a debrief with the clubs that are holding some of these bigger championships so that they might learn and pass on to the hosts in following years. If we are to enhance the Speedway experience and truly make it the number 1 summer motor sport then yes we do need to lift our act. Tracks drivers and SNZ

We had a run-off and was over and done by 11pm. It took a good team about 6 weeks in prep to make sure that things were going to work and it did. As always we had things we could improve for next time the event comes back to Auckland. I guess the main point here is: Is it up to SNZ to ensure how the event is going to be done...... and do we need to look at a format where the Title becomes a travelling series over four tracks within a 7 day period.....

Wiseowl, tis a good thread you started.
Regarding getting bp. shell (who incidently canned ALL motorsport sponsorship when they let dick johnson go) or some other big namer involved, the idea has its drawbacks.
for example
A) they would look at the grass areas and say " we could get more fan exposure if that area was seated" and so you lose that relaxed family picnic atmosphere that generations of fans have enjoyed.
B) they would then say, "hang on, these new seats are empty, our research indicates folks don't enjoy productions, ministocks and streetstocks,....so can we run them every 2nd meeting, and not all on the same night". The reality is such that sufficient numbers of high dollar classes cannot be found to make those sorts of speedway meetings regularly viable. You Then lose half your meetings and also your feeder classes
Big sponsors demand a big return - just look at the rugby world cup to see how towns have virtually been rearranged and individual sponsors agreements torn up to accomodate the sponsor fueled dollar frenzy that surrounds a rugby game these days. That is what happens under the cold smile of corporate sponsorship.
I would like to think that many fans enjoy the more laid back approach to speedway entertainment just as much as they do the palmy or springs approach.
is that true?
